But I really like that he tried to maintain the stories and yet people don't want to listen. Even Andrew with his projection just wanted to avoid the subject. It's so sad that he might have felt that his existence was being ignored although obviously he and his progeny were important to their community.

It's an interesting balance when one side (the cylons) have such a recent, horrible act still staining their hands with blood. How do two groups live in peace with that in their past? And yeah, I think Mark did lose some things by trying to keep his community but still remember the past. It was a sacrifice he made willingly, so I'll let him live with the choices. ;)

As for seeing life on Earth like this, YES. I can remember when I read 'Softly Tread' that I felt that sense of recognition--we have a similar view of post-finale life. (And that life is okay. Not the same as before, and there's a lot of things lost, but it isn't the end of humanity. The end of that culture, yes; that happened well before they got to Earth II anyway.)

Maybe in giving up the behavior of their false gods we can become true children of our God now

Is this what happens to all of us? We become a collection of stories to share?
He thinks it's both reassuring and saddening.
I'm fascinated with storytelling, so I loved Mark's conflict over feeling he needed to keep the stories of the horrors the Cylon had committed alive, yet knew that no one wanted to hear it and it had the potential to do a lot of harm. I haven't read the earlier stories, but now I'm definitely going to have to go back and catch up!

The themes you mention that resonated with you while reading are definitely ideas that I'm attracted to as well. Playing around with Mark's POV for this story (the other two are Laine's POV) ended up being a complete delight for me as writer, just because I could include those kinds of thoughts.
