Sweet Drabblethon entry

Oct 15, 2010 20:11

I tried to make it a drable but the words got away from me so it's more of a ficlet; the prompt was for Repo! - Amber/ Graverobber, Admiration and Appreciation from omgthatsfun

Title: Glow
Pairing: Amber/ Graverobber
Rating: I think about 13ish?
Summary: An attempt to write a happy ending, set a year after the events of Repo!
Comment: I suck at happy endings, sorry - and this is really a summary of something i've written that's getting on for 20,000 words which is how much it takes to explain how I got them to this point remotely realistically! Enjoy!

Glow

She lies, basking in the afterglow and he holds her tight, unsure if she's asleep or awake. He decides to chance it anyway and gently kisses the top of her head. She opens one eye and looks up at him, grinning crookedly;

"Gotcha" she says sleepily.

He smiles, stroking her perfect face, reconstructed now from the mess she made of it a year ago into a translucent sweetness that catches at his heart. It's her own face finally, the face he can now admit he always sHaw and always loved, the face of a woman who has rebuilt herself from that terrible fall into what she is now. He'll never tell her in words how brave he knows she has been.

In turn she won't tell him that she couldn't have done any of it on her own. He's been there for her ever since that night when he practically shoved her back out on stage, even though they both knew her father didn't have a kind word to say to her, even with his dying breath. But he, Graverobber, had caught her in the wings when she first fled the stage and told her that if she didn't face the world as she was then she would never be able to face it again. In return he had promised to help her, and here they were.

She catches his eye and smiles, settlingdown against his chest - eyes like Zydrate she thinks, drowsily - I'm addicted to a new glow - she's not quite off the old addiction yet, but she's getting there - she hasn't had a hit in days and then it was only  because he'd lashed her so hard she couldn't sit down without it. It was good.

It's been a good year in fact - surreal and unbelievable, but the way their lives have always been tha's only to be expected, and what could be less believable than a happy ending? It had to have happened.

He still has trouble believing it - every morning when he wakes to the warmth of her body and - stranger still - a bed. When he had promised he would be there for her he'd had no idea she would ask him to marry her; even less that he would have said yes.

fanfic, repo!
