I don't know if he's going to constantly harass her about it wanting to see more and more or if he'll do himself damage trying to delete a branch of knowledge he knows nothing about let alone hardly believe.
Ha! Yes, deciding between those reactions was one of the trickiest parts of the whole AU. In the end, though, I found myself going in rather a different direction...
I wonder if it would work for him as well as it works for Jo? Especially when it's a hereditary thing.
You have hit upon a very interesting problem. And that's all I can say about that. ;)
And I'm so glad you're enjoying Harry! She's become one of my favorites, and I'm hoping one day she'll get that scene with Mycroft I've been planning. 'Cause you know that would be a good time.
I adore this. Sherlock and Joanna's food fight after the cabbie incident was hilariously immature, exactly the sort of thing I can imagine them doing.
I really like Joanna and Harry's relationship. They don't get along at all, but there is still a shared past and the caring that comes of being each other's only remaining family. Joanna seems to want to leave her past behind if she can't . I loved the scene of Sherlock trying to protect Joanna from Harry's late night drunken visit.
So Moriarty seems to have at least an interest in magic and possibly is a practitioner himself. This does not bode well for the future. Joanna might want to leave behind her grandmother's legacy, but it doesn't want to be ignored. I wonder how much Sherlock guesses of her family's traditions, even if he doesn't believe in them.

Well said! That pretty much sums up the whole story. It'd be a good line for the movie trailer voice over: "In a world where magic thrives and every police officer's an idiot, all Dr Joanna Watson wanted was to live a normal life and leave behind her family's dark legacy. But it would not be ignored."
I have a special place in my heart for movie trailers that begin with a deep-voiced man saying "In a world..." Now I want the movie version of this. If you were picking an actress for Joanna, who would you pick?
I JUST REMEMBERED I HAD THIS ICON AND I WAS SUPER EXCITED TO USE IT IN AN APPROPRIATE CONTEXT. Your Uther Single Lady icon never fails to amuse me, partially because of the instant dance routine it conjures in my head.
The fabulous Jessica Hynes seems to be a popular fancast for a BBC style fem!Watson, and she was definitely on my mind as I wrote. Beyond just having the right look, she (like Martin Freeman) is capable of playing a character who's both an everywoman and a person with such a spectacularly unassuming inherent goodness to them that they're actually sort of a freak.
OMG I was sooooooooooooooooooooo excited when I saw you'd posted this (these)!!! Seriously. Dropped everything and got comfortable on the couch and then fell right head over heels again, down the rabbit hole into your amazing AU.
Is Moriarty genderswapped too??? (That is my big guess.)
And I'm so desperate to know how the For the Forgotten might come into play - I mean, they have to remember at some point, right??? Right???? ;D
Anyway, just wanted to say how fantastic this all is - your writing and world-building are both so stunning.

Argh! I wish you were right, because that would have been awesome. Unfortunately, I decided early on to limit the genderswapping just to John/Joanna -- things are AU enough as it is. (So, for example, Sarah Sawyer is still a Sarah, and not a Stanley. Not that Stanley would necessarily be the name I chose. Though it might be.)

I don't know, do they? *evil laughter*
(Yeah, they do.)
Thanks so much for reading, and for the wonderful comment!
I am enjoying this story so, so much. I can't even tell you. The dialogue is just insanely perfect and the way you build character interaction is equally amazing. Something about "E. Farmer, In defiance." just took my breath away, too.
