wrestling with technology

I guess I get easily frustrated sometimes. I can be totally patient with a lot of things, but for some reason when it's time to "upgrade" the Taurus in me comes out. I hate it when a program that I have tweaked to do what I want it to do doesn't work anymore and I have to break in a newer version.

That happened this morning with Netscape.( If you get frustrated with people who don't understand new technology or adjust well to it, don't bother clicking here. This is definitely in the whiney rant territory. )

geekery, frustration

I downloaded Nutscrape 6 for OS9 Classic, but it wasn't worth the time of downloading it. Netscape even sent me a free CD with an "updated" version of it and it worked even worse than the copy I downloaded.

I let it go and just downloaded Explorer and was done with it. I tried the Opera net browser program, there were lots of pages with IE plug-ins that Opera couldn't read and handle. Oh well. For the time being, it seems Bill is the biggest influence on the net.

BTW, love the song. It's one that cheers me up when I hear it on the radio.

..but doesn't act like it. I've been using Mozilla 1.0. It's based on the Netscape Engine, so it looks alot like Netscape - but it has the compatibility features of IE within it. It also support standards compliance for webpages - unfortunately, most pages don't actually use 'standard compliance'.

But if you want a program that is stable, works well, and is completely open source, then Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org) is the way to go.

Heh. This is like a month old! But thanks for the link. You are not the first to recommend Mozilla, but you are the first to give me a clickable link. So when the dust settles a bit from moving, I think I will have to give it a try.
