Mild Heroes Rant: Peter and Claire

Nov 06, 2007 20:09

This season of Heroes hasn't been the best, I admit. Besides a couple of boring plotlines, there's been some really bad writing of a character that I love.

Now, normally I hate it when people cry, "OMG that character is out of character!" because in my mind, authors or writers of a show can't really write a character that they've created to be ( Read more... )

Um, yeah. I agree completely. Claire is acting exactly the way we would expect her to act in her circumstances. Although admittedly I wish she'd be a little more wary of West, she has shown that she does have gut hesitant reactions at first to West's attempts to flaunt their talents, so to speak. But then, yeah, there's her dad totally going against his word again, plus the normal human desire to be true to herself and not pretend to be someone she's not. I think she's one of the most in character people on Heroes right now.

I also agree about Peter, including the acting, which I do not blame Milo for at all, but instead this completely INANE "amnesia" bullsh*t, which has rendered Peter a literal shell of what he used to be. Compare the current Peter to Pilot Peter, and it's like, "WTF how are they the same person?" I'm excited for next week mainly coz we get to go back in time to before Peter forgets everything about who he is (and of course for the supposed answers we may be getting about certain things - like how Nathan and Peter ( ... )

Oh, someone who agrees. *loffs* It seems like all the Paire shippers feel the opposite - they're more frustrated with Claire than Peter.

About Claire's hesitant reactions: it's not like she decided to disobey her father right away. She tried to get rid of West, the li'l pest, and told him she couldn't date him. It wasn't until she learned that her dad had actually kidnapped him once upon a time and started going on "copier conferences" that she started to rebel. And Claire definitely showed remorse when it came to what she and West did to the cheerleader, so it's still clear to me that she hasn't been totally won over by West.

And I totally agree - amnesia plotlines almost always = questionable acting. Mainly because the person always has to be, "Omg, what? Who am I? *angsts* What if I don't want to be who i was? *angsts some more*"

Ah. :D Thank you for giving me an opportunity to go on a little Heroes fandom rant there. ;)

Anytime, hon. ;) And glad you like the icon! I LOLed when I saw it. :)

Right, yeah, I'm glad she was hesitant, and I do think it was in character for her to be that way - after all, she's not an idiot. But again, as you say, once she sees her father starting to break his own rules, all bets are off.

LOL oh yes, amnesia plotlines are sad.

THANK YOU! Finally, someone's opinion I can agree with! I will totally stand guard in case someone tries to murder you in your sleep! :D

I see Claire as totally in-character this season. As you said, she knows that HRG isn't abiding by his promise...so why should she?

And Peter. Yeah, corny lines much? (Especially "Tell me what the future holds." Seriously, that line practically made me shudder with its utter ridiculousness. I mean, I would have more expected to find it in a fanfic written by a 12 year old.)

Where is S.1 Peter? I miss him!

As much as I love seeing shirtless!Milo, his whole storyline this season hasn't impressed me as much as I'd like.

Oh, and by the way? Your icon is cracking me up! :D

Yay, I have someone to protect me while I sleep! Thanks. :D

About the corny lines: Peter isn't the only one who's had them this season, and I'm not saying he's never had them before, but they're really out of hand. LOL at the fanfic comment. :)

Where is S.1 Peter? I miss him!

Buried under all that amnesia. :/

Glad you like the icon, hon. I ♥ it, too.

I definitely liked season one Peter much more, but I don't think it was OOC. I think it's kinda annoying, and not the way I would have written it, but it is in character. It's Peter's memories and his family that make him who he is. Take both of them away, and he would be a different person. I think he'll go back to mostly who he was before (except some changes because of his experience) when he gets the rest of his memory back.

Emma, dear! *smooches* How have you been, hon?

When it comes to Peter this season, I feel like he could pass for being in character for the reasons you've stated, but certain things he's done and certain actions he's taken lead me to feel otherwise.

Making an offhand comment about the people who love him "look for him" weren't Peter-like. He's a guy who's all about his heart and that doesn't come from his family or his memories exclusively. It's in his being - it's why he's an empath, because he can become connected to others and feels for them more than he does for himself.

The Peter I fell love wouldn't leave his family hanging. He'd want to find out about the people who love him, make sure they're okay, and let him know he's okay. And even if he felt the grass was greener on the Irish side, he still would have checked on his real family first, not be tattooed into Caitlin's family because he has the hots for her.

It is true that the comment wasn't very Peter-like, and it is a drastic example of how he's changed, but I still don't think it's totally ooc. It's not that he doesn't care about them, but he has every reason to be overwhelmed, and at the time he said that they were complete strangers to him. If someone wakes up far from home with no memories of their past life, there are two options, find out your past, or cling to what you know. Both are in character, and I actually think the later makes more sense and the former is more... cliche. If everything and everyone you know is in one place, why would you go out of your way to hunt down strangers, even if you are not a stranger to them ( ... )

The 2nd season is the one you mean, I presume?? It's just started here in NZ and here I've gone and spoilered myself ... go me, haha. So do Claire and West stay friends?? They're pretty cute atm.

Yep, I'm talking about the 2nd season. :D Aww, you've spoiled yourself already? Ha, I should have known.

At the moment, West and Claire are more than friends and it's not really cute anymore. West is bordering on stalkerish (but even still, I can't hate the kid). I miss my Peter/Claire. :/
