My brother called again this morning. Dad has turned downhill. His organs are shutting down; his kidneys are apparently at a fraction of the functioning they should be at. At 11:30 today, I got a call from my brother in NYC. My Dad, who's been recuperating very slowly from a broken hip, has been taken to emergency surgery because the doctors have discovered a perforation somewhere in his stomach or bowel.
