Wow. This is fantastic. A scenario I had never considered...but incredibly, incredibly plausible. Particularly given the power and influence of the Wellesleys: Barbara would have no qualms whatever, I should think.

Beautifully written--as always--and a real delight.

And Lydia? Oh, perfect, just brilliant on your part. Maria's choice of pseudonym tells us so very much about her. You do more with this one word than with a page of dialogue or exposition. Brilliant!

The idea lodged itself firmly in my head and wouldn't leave until I wrote it. And I claim pure divine intervention in the naming, because I honestly didn't know it was going to go there, but it did and I just typed "Lydia" and knew it was right.

Oh, this is gorgeous...! I read one of your previous Hornblower stories and have been trying to find the series ever since; I think I might just have to give in and resort to shenanigans to watch it.

It is a lovely series and the books are awesome and awful all at once, and I fully endorse the seeing/reading. Also, there's lots of pretty.

Oh. What an amazing idea, and how well it broke my heart. Maria WOULD take that deal and consider it her duty. And I love her saying how he always gets his way because he does.

I have missed your writing.
