Have had this open on my laptop to read for days and then an extra day so I could absorb it having read it so I could comment.

Loved it, which goes without saying. Broke my heart, which also goes without saying. You do pragmatic Barbara to a knife's point. Which is to say beautifully and painfully, especially for Maria, and even Hornblower caught in the middle, poor inarticulate blighter.

Horatio picked the wrong women to be in his life if he wanted some control over it. Which is probably why he goes to sea a lot.
