Unable to bear another of Slughorn’s cups of holiday cheer, Severus fled to his solitude.
The wind howled through Spinner’s End, amid the greying snowdrifts and the Muggle factories belching smoke. Severus Apparated to the alleyway behind his childhood home. Alone at last! Walking up the garden’s path, he saw an upstairs curtain flutter briefly.
An intruder!
Withdrawing his wand, he entered. Downstairs…quiet. Swinging open the concealed stairwell, he saw shimmering, dove-grey, silk knickers on the railing. The scent of narcissus filled the air.
With a shiver and a smirk, Severus stowed his wand and crept stealthily up the stairs.
