I have no idea why it’s taken so long for me to write this. If I’m not mistaken there’s a new episode this week, so just look on this as kind of a recap or whatever before the next episode.

Young Sam: But Dad said the monsters under my bed weren't real.
Young Dean: That's 'cause he'd already checked under there.

You are correct. Sam is 8 here and in the pilot says that when he was 9, John gave him a gun to confront the thing in his closet.

From the quotes and the timing? What the hell was in the closet? Because the implication is that it was REAL and that is why John gives Sam the gun.

I don't necissarily think there was anything in the closet, might just have been John's way of teaching Sam the ropes, and how to deal with their way of life.

I think it's pretty damn amazing John and Dean managed to hide the truth from him for 8 years.

I've seen the disbelief that Sam didn't know for so long - but I actually do believe it. Kids believe in their parents and believe reality as we shape it. Easter Bunnies, Tooth Fairies, etc. They believe until we tell them not to. So I can get Sam not questioning "his faith" until 8.

Dean knows because at 4 - he would have wanted to know where Mom was. He wouldn't have believed a lie and he had to be taught the charms and protections like salt. He would have remembered "before" and known the truth earlier.

That's actually a very good point. I never thought about it like that, but you're right. :)

Thank you. :)

Yeah, I iscovered that after I posted the review. Had I known beforehand it might have taken me even longer to write it, so it was just as well. :)
I'm just happy we have more episodes. :)

I *loved* this ep! So many cool things..

The 70's/80's style intro.. major flashback to my childhood!

The WeeChesters (as my friend likes to call them, heh) and of course how at the end we find out the truth of Dean's necklace. Aww

The pagan story was very interesting.. but man that 'Santa' was disturbing! I think if I watched that as a kid i'd be messed up!! And that couple was creepy too.. and I totally gasped when they pulled Sam's nail off. Ouch!

Thanks for the line about the pagan god and mild weather. I could not make out what name he was saying!

It was an amazing episode. It's so easy to make christmas episodes cheesy, but I loved this.

Hehe, yeah, I wonder how many kids have been mentally scared on that show. ;p
I did not expect them to actually pull out the nail, I was so shocked when they actually did. Then when they went for Dean's tooth I had no idea what to expect, I'm glad they stopped when they did.

and sorry for the über late reply

Absolutely loved this episode! The boys were adorable and I loved their little gift giving at the end and the fact that the necklace that Sam gave him in this episode is the one that Dean wears all the time!
