► For me, Christmas 2009 will go down as having been both painful and awesome, for different reasons.

First, the bad. It's pretty much a given at this point that all the awful pain I've had this past week and a half has been caused by a bad molar. The pain has worsened since Christmas Eve and I'm now alternating taking generic extra-strength Read more... )

It was better than I expected. Constant TMJ pain aside. ;-)

Good luck for your appointment with the dentist. I keep my fingers crossed that it won't be too bad. Don't worry, you will make it without a panic attack. I have a good feeling :)

Thank you, Janina. I only went to the hospital though, and not the dentist. Feeling better now.

i'm having molar problems as well.

I got something from Walgreens a couple weeks ago which turned out to be a small vial of clove oil, which is supposed to be the best 'home' remedy for a toothache on the planet.
it will deaden the pain in a hurry but will also make you wish you were dead if you get any on any part of your mouth besides your tooth.

After visiting the hospital ER on Sunday, it turns out the source of my pain isn't my molar. My TMJ (jaw joint) is inflamed and the aggravated molar is just a side effect along with the stiffness in my neck and intense headaches. I'm on anti-inflammatories now.

Isn't clove oil what they use in the movie Marathon Man? I didn't think it was commonly available.

did they say what caused the inflammation in your jaw?

My understanding is that my joint problem itself caused the inflammation, and that it'll continue to occasionally flare up in the future. Just something I'll have to live with.

In hindsight it explains the pain I had twice in the past that lead to my getting root canals done on 2 molars.
