I'm so old.

A lot has been made lately of the "mindset" of the recent graduating college class, and I admit to finding it quite fascinating, if a little depressing. I didn't have what I'd call a seminal "mindset moment" until this past Saturday, however, when I was out in the college bars. I don't know, but it would really be wasted time if they do. In some small way, I mourn the loss of my generation's culture, but we shouldn't burden the next with stuff that's no longer relevant. Their ignorance of political history, geography, and science (ironic, that) is the real problem.

I can't imagine... cafeterias, break rooms, class rooms, all the places I'm used to seeing face clocks, they now have digital clocks on the wall instead? So weird! I guess I don't get out much. I only just found out they stopped making VHS.

But are they really more ignorant of those things than other generations were at that age? I guess there's an ebb and flow.

I managed to discover a generation gap with someone I was dating at the time, who was only three years younger than I was. He called Green Day a punk band. I found this... inexpressably depressing.

He also thought was 30 was 'old,' and is now 33, so ha.

And I would totally buy a DeLorean to this day, because of the cool factor.

Enh, I didn't get into punk until it had already gone toward New Wave. Now I listen to Kill Rock Stars and old Dischord, but that's about it. I wear Chucks, but black leather ones, because canvass has long since gone pop. I'll never give up my leather jackets, though. They're warm.

My musical taste has gotten a lot more inclusive since my days of listening to PiL and Black Flag, but they'll still have to pry my Manic Panic from my cold, dead fingers.
