Me grandmama was kind enough to accompany me to the theater tonight, after I found no one else to go with. Not that she was really a second choice, I'd thought to go with her yesterday but ended up waiting over an hour for a bus that never came D:. Tonight I was only hampered by the traffic jam from HELL that made a 15-minute ride take over an hour ( Read more... )

I didn't know she also had country stuff, but I see now that she does and will look it up.

Hm, how about some obvious ones to start as they're the first to come to mind ( ... )

Also I am ashamed to admit I love Leeann Rimes' version of "The Rose" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4I7qScX9X1Y

Hi I love you ♥___♥. Thank you so much for these, and they are not obvious at all -- the only one I knew was Jolene.

I know two out of three and like them lots :-) I didn't know she counted as country, though, at least not what I imagine country as being.

I'm putting in a vote for Alison Krauss. Okay, she's bluegrass, but that counts as country in my book. The Alison Krauss/Robert Plant (from Led Zeppelin) country album "Raising Sand" is fantastic, as is most of her work with Union Station.

Also... DID YOU KNOW Norah Jones has a country album? It is called "The Little Willies". Norah Jones singing Johnny Cash is pretty spectacular.

Neko Case, mentioned above, is also a pretty good place to look.

Also, I have Janis Ian duetting with Dolly Parton on "My Tennessee Hills" and I love that a lot.

Ooh, thank you for the recs! I had no idea about Norah Jones.

I listened to the Dolly Parton/Janis Ian duet and really really loved it :-)

Norah Jones does this ridiculous and awesome thing where she dresses up in costume, assumes a false name, and gets a few of her friends together and they play music in some small New York club. And promotes it mostly by word of mouth in the music community. I guess it's because she likes the small club setting but she's too big a name to play any of those clubs anymore under her real name.

She does this with a punk group called El Madmo and an all-girl classic country cover band called Puss 'n Boots and a country band called The Little Willies and probably with other groups I haven't heard of. I was lucky enough to see a Puss 'n Boots show last year.

Gosh, maybe I should watch it. On my three years in art school the Drama department did something of Moliere every year, which I greatly enjoyed as I read all of plays they did when I was a kid. Plus I watched a French movie about him once with some friends, and I greatly enjoyed that, too. SO MAYBE I SHOULD WATCH IT.

I never saw that movie when it came out, though I want to. And you should check out when they play in Haifa -- I think it might even be this weekend? Or IDK. But anyway, it was really good.

I saw it in one of the indie cinemas around town all my local friends seem to like so much. I get dragged to foriegn films now and then.

If it's this weekend then I can't. I have my big math exam monday, and a good friend who's going to NYC and there's ל״ג בעומר. I hope i'm not working. And all I wanna do is crawl into bed and sleeeeeeeep. You know the feeling? SIGH.
