And I used to hear a story, possibly apocraphal, that after the strike at Pearl Harbor, a member of the Japanese Navy stated “we have woken the sleeping giant”…but Colby strikes me more as a dragon than a giant.

Colby let the FBI man question him, his blood chilled by the news just delivered: Michelle Kim had been killed. ‘Hit and run’ according to the man.

“Do you know what she did for the Chinese Embassy?” Agent Sinclair asked.

And you already know, Colby knew from the tone. “Interpretter, I suppose?” he said, knowing that that was her job. Shrugging, “We didn’t really talk about her job there.”

There were nights that he buried himself in her arms - needed to, had to ground himself. Even knowing that he was just digging himself deeper, he did it.

Initially suspecting, then coming to know that she was a spy. And Kirkland looking like a kid on Christmas morning, telling Granger to stick close to her and see what can be found. So he did…dropping the things Kirkland had okayed - and one thing he hadn’t. Michelle had been pleased, grateful, delighted - professionally and personally.

And now… “Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help,” he told David.

“Yeah,” Agent Sinclair said, his tone suggesting to Colby that he was going to talk to people more important - like witnesses and those close to the victim.

Apocraphal or not, Colby thought to himself. Doesn’t matter who did this, they’ve woken the dragon. And even with the rest of his unit dead, Colby knew there would be a rain of fire upon the bastard responsible.

Liz Warner was on her way home after a long and hard day at work - investigating racetrack murders and insider trading, never easy - when someone slid out of the crowd and fell into lockstep alongside her.

"Hey," he said.

Tall, muscular, nice eyes. "I remember you," Liz said calmly. "You were the only one we didn't have to shove back in their seat."

Or slam into the table. "Colby Granger."

"Tobakian sent you?"

"Nope."

"Then who? Why're you here?"

My unit died in Afghanistan. An IED went off, and that pinned us down under hostile gunfire. The man who pulled Granger out of there, he introduced Colby to a Russian, who introduced Granger to Tobakian. But that's not what you meant. "Thought I'd see what you need."

"That is the worst line I've ever heard."

"Wasn't a line."

"We need evidence against Tobakian, to put him away for good," Liz said. If he reports this to his boss, it'll make Tobakian figure we don't have anything substantial on him. If Granger doesn't report this conversation, then maybe, just maybe he'll help.

"I'll see what I can find," Colby said.
