I'm so terribly conflicted because... okay, from a purely artistic standpoint, this is everything you could ever hope a death scene to be. Writing, art, everything.

But at the same time I can't get over the initial "D8 KUUUURT!" or just being so freaking burned out on comic book deaths.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it shoddy writing. It certainly fits with the theme of what's happening, etc.

But you know, with comic books and guys risking their necks all the time, I'm surprised not more people die (PERMANENTLY).

From the sounds of it, they're making death permanent in DC. Wondering how long that's going to last or how well it's going to be done. And Marvel is still in the grips of The Assholes Rule...

I kind of feel like... yes, these are people who are putting themselves in life threatening situations and realistically a lot more of them should be dead, but at the same time, I'm not reading comics for that kind of realism. I'm reading comics to get away from that for a little bit. Yes, death scenes can be done well and compelling, like Kurt's (and I'm so freaking grateful for that)and to an extent they're necessary, but it's gotten to the point where everything is just getting too damn ridiculous and grim dark.

I kind of feel we're running the risk of hitting going back to the kind of crap that was being done in the 90's.

I JUST WANT MY FUCKING TED BACK, DC. YOU HEAR ME? YOU HEAR ME?! 8(

Lol, but I mean...going to comics to get away from it...it's a little ironic? With the way comics are done now, it's less about the Golden and Silver Age where everything was lulz to OK, these are super heroes. They have issues. Let's deal with them. Not saying it should SWEET JUSTICE GRIM DARK, but yanno.

I have no idea if they're ever going to give us that or not... Apparently something is supposed to happen in Booster, so I guess we'll see in the next year or so ( ... )
