After several weeks of working long hours and sometimes six day weeks, I finally have a bit of time off. The problem is, now that I finally have this time, I am feeling so burned out that I cannot seem to focus, especially on my writing. I have four days to finish my Redux that is going nowhere (in my head, fine, onto the paper? Not happening ( Read more... )

Making a to do list of things that need to be done and just whacking away can be very helpful. If I don't think I have time to write, nothing will come out.

I'm feeling very distracted lately and am hoping to do some (more) writing this afternoon. I'm not even trying to get to PL today; just writing something on the side. That can be helpful too, to just write something short on the side.

I'm around, by the way, if you want to find me. I'll be on gchat:D <3

You sound like you just need a good break!

Sometimes I find going for a walk helps , I can nut out problems in my head a bit better for some reason
The other thing I do is look at pictures of Colin and procrastinate, which doesn't get anything done, but is nice

It's hard to advise on something like this because what works for one does not always work for another. To be honest, the thing that helps me the most when I am stumped on a fic is for me to sit down and jot something out with my other pairing. It sounds mad, but there have been plenty of times I've hit the wall with something Matt and Dom related and just opened a new doc and played with Merlin and Arthur and it just seems to... jump start something in me. And vice versa. Matt and Dom's 'Skin' came to life when I was struggling with my sequel to 'Parallel Deviations', my first ever Merlin fic.

I know that's not an option that everyone has, though.

There are times, tbh, when I just have to walk away for a couple of days and decompress from writing.

Basically, I am no help. :/

BUT I am here to cheer you on in any way that I can, you know that!

First, please put aside sending me notes. There is absolutely no hurry and we have months yet. jelazakazone's advice is the same as mine. Make a checklist and attack it. It will help organize you and give you a sense that you're accomplishing something. But make sure you get some really good sleep to recover first, and don't feel bad about it because you'll be much more productive and creative when you're well-rested.

I second the advice about making a checklist! But before attacking any of the goals on it, you sound like you need some relaxing time. I try to avoid anything related to the stuff on my checklist. Even half an hour of mind isolation does a lot of good. Going outside and enjoying a cup of coffee/tea/whatever in silence is great too :)

Oh, and doodling. It's relaxing. Just don't worry about making your doodles perfect :))

Hope you find a method that works for you! <3 And don't worry, you're not alone. I definitely need to ask for a few days' extension for Redux...
