I had never listened to Bruce Springsteen much before my late twenties, which I never thought of as odd for the following reasons ( Read more... )

3. I am not from New Jersey or, as everyone calls it, the Nuje.

I hope you were kidding, but since you take every opportunity to use that phrase, I just can't tell.

I've loved Bruce for awhile (he was in my parents' Paul Simon/James Taylor/Billy Joel rotation; I remember particularly liking "Workin' on a Highway" as a tot). As for "Thunder Road," I do think you've missed hearing it as it is meant to be played: too loud over crappy car speakers while driving alone and using the steering wheel for percussion.

I listened to a lot of Greetings while in, where else, Asbury Park last summer. I enjoy "Blinded by the Light." I do thank you for "Girls in their Summer Clothes," I didn't know it before the CD game.

I've said this a billion times before, but sometimes I accidentally find myself thinking about how Bruce will likely die during my lifetime and then it's hard for me to not cry. I would totally be one of those whackjobs going to candlelit memorials with strangers.

I think the Bruce/ Titus correlations are harmonica related. Whenever they kick into Joset of Nazareth's Blues I'm always tricked into thinking it's going to be Promiseland. And they cover Badlands a lot. In high school, PJ got a poem voted into the literary magazine called "Ode To Bruce Springsteen." The entire text was "You are so freakin' cool." I agree with him.

It's also worth noting that The Man has done a lot for his area of NJ, which is really struggling-- helped out a lot of local business, has been really involved in reform, etc. I kind of can't believe we haven't put his face on the 20 dollar bill yet.

Ooh, good call about "Joset," that does cop a pretty epic Springsteeny sound at the beginning. I'm a big-time sucker for a well-played harmonica.
