Some fandom notes...

- Merlin was good last night. Go Morgana! And pleeease can I take Mordred home with me? He's the very image of cuteness.

- I'm feeling a bit bereft because FlashForward is taking a 'mid-season break'. I need it back now please! How's a girl supposed to cope without a weekly existential trip to the philosophy of determinism vs. free will? Oh yes, ( Read more... )

I have all the current episodes for Spooks but I hate myself for not watching them yet. They're very intense so I know I have to be in the right mindset and have the time to shut out the rest of the world.

Oh yes, I know what you mean! Because it's intense, you need to be able to let your emotions run with it, so it's no good watching if you're distracted by other things. I hope you find some quiet time for watching them soon :)

But isn't Merlin terrible? Nothing any character does makes any sense whatsoever.

Are you watching the current series? This year has been a massive improvement on last year, because the first series was lacking in some respects re plot and characterisation (plus, Nimueh was awful, and Mordred and Morgause are proving to be much more interesting). It's really found its feet now, and I'm looking forward to more. It's even getting quite exciting!

(Sorry, I tried to work out who you are, but S could be several people - help?)

After giving up on the first series I did a random-episode-sample of the one on Saturday. After a disturbing few minutes trying to work out what age Morgana must have been when Mordred was born I discovered that it has not improved at all: characters still spontaneously generate (and drop) motives on a scene-by-scene basis depending on which direction the plot needs to go, People do pointless things just to exposit to the audience ('bring me my sleeping draught' 'but madam, it's two steps away and surely if you're going to use it to let the prisoner escape you would rather not advertise the fact' 'silly servant, if I don't advertise the fact how will the viewers know? We can't for a moment assume they are intelligent!') and, oh, it's just awful in every way.

(I've never met anyone named 'rochvelleth' either so not knowing who you are I don't think I can help, sorry.)

Context could probably help with some of the motivation issues, but I agree it's not perfect. Sometimes what happens in a scene can be cringingly obvious. But it's rollicking along and has had many positive points - especially the improved acting and plotting from last season, and the wonderful guest stars. So I'll be sticking with it, but I appreciate it's not to everyone's tastes!

(Sorry, I assumed you'd seen this because you were someone from my f'list but weren't logged on.)
