i know i talk a lot about music. i know i own a lot of records. but today, i really got to thinking. rather than post the mix i was working on, why not pose a question to those who happen across this journal.

i ask you, indie kids, to raise your tiny fists to the air like antennae and sing out your epic piece of music mastery.

but then again... ( Read more... )

there's been some other suggestions that i've got through word of mouth:

from autumn to ashes//short stories with tragic endings
something corporate//konstantine
aloha//protest song
sigur ros//the nothing song (staralfur)

interesting that you should post that.I'm sitting here in my school library "researching" and listening to my discman. So naturally my research involves checking my livejournal. And as soon as the page loaded that exact song came on. It's definetly an epic song, and it makes me melt. It's odd because the lyrics are so simple and to the point but still the combination of lyric and music creates a masterpiece. a catchy masterpiece at that.

Good call matt, good call.

while transatlanticism is a great track i don't believe it can take the cake. why? the test of time. transatlaticism came out less than a year ago. i've only owned it for a few months but i'm already finding that song wearing off on me. it's not even my favourite on the album.

konstantine makes a great choice. incredibly long and epic, but somewhat bland throughout as there are only subtle changes in pace and tone.

short stories with tragic endings is also a great song, but not as an indie rock epic. hardcore is not accessible enough amongst indie rock listeners.

so i'm going to go with a song by a band who's put out 4 original LPs,
a rarities LP, and two EPs. been together for over eight years, and basically redefined the genre they're a part of. the song is long, it's epic, emotional yet restrained. it isn't necessarily their best song by any means, but in terms of epicness, it;s hard to beat.
