ok so first of all i just thought of something when i read that......we are talking about a lot of guys with one or two girls......yet every time evan and i talk he says he will hang out as long as there arent too many girls and only like two guys.....just a thought.....and i am saying that rachel and i are people who naturally hang out with guys a lot.....it is just naturally like that a lot of the time. where as we have people in our group of friends that naturally hang out with a lot of people of the same gender......i dont know. it makes sense to me
well, they only hang out with many ppl of the same gender due to the fact that they believe they might feel awkward talking to a large group of the other gender. in doing this they sort of doom themselves into not believing that it is possible, therefore making it less likely/possible for them to do it. if society didnt have these rules and ideas to begin with, evan probably wouldnt be saying this. i dont think it is really unreasonable to hang out as like the only guy with a group of girls, just as you dont care about the reverse. evan is more like the other people who this rant is directed at, believing in the difference and needed separation, tho with more relaxation on the rule. its not just that the girls are 'prude' as danny puts it(dont take that as the real definition of prude, but how danny perceives it) it is really society as a whole that is 'prude' and i am willing to take a stand to put a stop to that.
okay. i'm sorry, i think i understand better what you mean now. i didn't mean to go off on everyone in my earlier comment =( but at least for me. its not that i'm hesitant to hang out with boys. i love all of you!! its mostly my parents. and the fact that i'm not often let in on plans. just putting it out there.
i got tired of reading replies so i skipped to the end. (which is here as of now (6:30pm 3/1/07))
personally, i think we all sometimes put on a mask. its like a social barrier. and for osme people its a big mask, others not so much (maybe i'll make a post about this later..) anyway. with your true friends this mask is non-existant, your friends are genuine with you. But with others this mask can be anywhere form very big, to paper thin, but its there. and it's part of the prude factor. and if you ever notice, those who you are closest with are less...up-tight. they're more let loose and do w/e. so maybe its just a job of taking off everyone's mask.
i know i have no place in this argument, but it kinda makes me sad to hear about you all segregating into these separate girls and guys get-togethers. remember back in middle school when we all hung out together in one huge group? (granted, it was a slight variation of the current people) i'm sorry this is happening to you guys, i hope things work out
oh and ps, planning for senior week 2 years ahead is not worth the stress. and while i understand you were using the instance to make a point, things will change, its not worth it to think about it now.
I completely agree that the whole senior week discussion does not need to be happening. we can barely get a homecoming group together with out stressing over whose in it, where, what time, etc. Also, if you're tired of this 'segregation' you claim to be happening, do something about it. invite a group of guys and girls over to your house. i think a lot of times with poker on friday nights, the girls do not feel included or comfortable going over with a group of 7 guys. also, more girls parents are less inclined to let their daughter hang out with all guys and no girls. while i am not saying it is right for the parents to do that, it is what happens often times.
and i think we all need to remember that everyone is under a lot of stress and working constantly right now. with the portfolio, the reserach paper, the musical, and other activities and assignments, we dont have as much time right now to just hang out whenever.
i know when i have people over to my house, i have invited girls a few times, and it has always not been uncomfortable, but very relaxed. the thing thats more pressing is that girls are normally trying to do something else, so guys just get together to do poker, for we would prefer normally to go and chill with a mixture of both guys and girls, or at least most of the guys i know would. we have been trying to take steps to remove the segregation through certain events, such as skating or movie nights, and are trying to find more things to do. we've been trying to invite girls over to chill sometimes, and they couldnt. i remember one time at alex's we called around 10-11 girls, and only rachel could come, all either didnt want to, or had something preventing them. and that stress issue is just wrong because almost nobody would stay home on both friday or saturday night just doing homework, they want to be out with their friends having fun. i know nobody that wasnt out and doing something this last friday or saturday. and the parents
( ... )
ok so i have to put defense up now. the whole homework thing is not true......i would have stayed home this weekend and done homework all friday and saturday. the only reason i went out on friday was because i went to temple and then i had to do something because my dad was yelling at me which inclined me to go to the concert.....saturday was my last chance to hang out with everyone before my life is taken over. but u are wrong because i would have stayed home to do homework. and also look at our friends. i know i have said this before. but i mean if u look at us at school as well, rachel and i hang out with guys there too......that is going to reflect our weekend hangouts as well. and my parents are nto the most restrictive. i dont know, i think we are saying the same things over and over again but yea we just need to drop it and do what we can to change it but do not go at it in an offensive way like we have been
