I got word last night that I'd sold another story.  This one's based on one of the oldest, longest-running comic characters in the world -- The Phantom.  The story is called "Night Visitor to Bangalla," and will appear in an anthology called GUARDIAN OF THE EASTERN LIGHT from Moonstone Books.

Some days are just overwhelmingly good days.  The mail brought a nice royalty check from Yard Dog Press for my story collection, TURN LEFT TO TOMORROW.  Then, I logged on a short time ago and found the cover art for the first issue of my upcoming SPIDER adventure from Moonstone Books.  It's a knock-out!  I don't have a specific release date yet.  ( Read more... )

I haven't posted much lately, largely because I feel like I'm in something of a holding pattern.  My elbow surgery is not until next Wednesday.  It seems like that's taking forever.  I'm working on a new sf novel, and although the first chapter came quickly, the subsequent work has been slow.  I don't know if it's depression - not ready to embrace ( Read more... )

I've been following with some interest the discussions in the topics of Jim Hines and Nick Mamatus regarding blatantly sexist artwork in the sf and fantasy fields.  After all, I've had my share of really prepostrous "big tits" artwork on the covers of some of my own books.  The cover of NIGHT'S ANGEL, for instance, was a 14-year old boy's wet dream ( Read more... )

I had cancelled my plans to attend the Campbell Conference due to health and fatigue.  However, Chris McKitterick kindly mentioned that the bookstore had ordered a bunch of my books in preparation for today's booksigning.  Like, okay, dangle some bait.  So at eight o'clock this morning, I hauled my backside over to Lawrence.

I got a note from Moonstone Books this evening that the final revisions to THE SPIDER - DEATH VOTES TWICE! have been accepted.  They're very happy with the story.  Best of all, I'm very happy with it, too.  This was the most fun I've had writing in a long time.  Actually, I have fun with all my writing, but there was something uniquely pleasing ( Read more... )

I got word from Moonstone Books today that they're -very- happy with the expansion on THE SPIDER - Death Votes Twice.  They've got the artist lined up already.  I'm afraid I haven't gotten the artist's name.  However, I'm excited.  Writing the story was great fun.  There are some touch-up "suggestions" to take a look at next week ( Read more... )
