All of my life, most of them. And I was not aware of it as such, because I was raised to believe it was all psychological. My family denied there was anything wrong, and my mother was particularly good at intimidating doctors. I got things like threatened with orthopedic shoes if I didn't "stop clomping around pretending to limp." I have one leg shorter than the other by 3cm. That's the right side hemi-hypoplasia and I have had that all my life ( ... )

The time may come. I hope it does for you. It's crazy the reaction I still get to my disabilities because the only difference now is that I know they're there, know that I am not going to get around to working out and make myself look good because it's still a lost cause, know that I won't ever do nature hikes.

I want my power chair and to be able to do the equivalents, and to do plein air drawing rolling around in it. And go to SCA events with it and roll around with brocade drapery on it making it look all regal like a throne, doing artwork and scribework.

If there's one thing I've learned (and feel free to discount this since I'm less than half your age and have way less life experience), it's that if you promise something to friends, and other things get in the way, your friends will usually understand. Also, any projects that you give yourself deadlines for will still be there after the deadline passes, and though while there may be the feeling of personal disappointment at not finishing it on time, your health is way more important. As I'm always reminding my roommate when her health starts taking a turn for the worse, it's good to get things done on time, but if it's at the expense of health, then it's just not worth it. Push yourself too hard to get things done today, and it could be the straw that breaks the camel's back and you end up out of commission for a week ( ... )

You're so right. It's not LilCrabbyGal who's driving me on this. She mentioned it a couple of times after years had passed, but she was completely understanding when I answered her by explaining where I'd been and what I was doing. I was offline for a lot of the year in 2006 so I can see why she was starting to worry, people vanish when they go offline and if you're waiting for something from them you don't know if it'll ever come. She was incredibly understanding ( ... )
