Taz has sort of reverted to a wilder state. He won't come to us or let us approach him. He's a very quick little kitty. Phil did try to pick him up and said that Taz resisted with claws and teeth, although not as strongly as when we got him. Taz and Komori seem to have reached an detente of sorts, though, so that is good.

We had not been looking forward to how Vlad/Voldemort/Damian would react to the vet. Phil said, "I hope she doesn't say 'Sorry, I can't be your vet any more.'" While we were waiting for her in the exam room, we took the screws out of the carrier so we could just take the top off instead of trying to fish him out through the door ( Read more... )

Phil asked if it would be cruel to call the kitten "Helen". (Remember, he's a boy.) Our earlier search and seizure of the kitten evidently reminded Phil of the Dining Room scene from The Miracle Worker.

One of the women I work with volunteers with the local Humane Society, and will soon be leaving us to take the position of Marketing Director with the society. I see Abu's medications in the kitchen and I quietly start keening. Why it should be only in that situation is a mystery.

Abu died Sunday around 2 am. Phil says it was fairly quick and relatively painless. He stopped breathing.

The chemo treatments just weren't working, and Abu was too weak.

Phil and I discussed options last night. We agree that we don't want Abu to suffer needlessly. If the alternative treatment that our vet has heard of doesn't appear to be viable, then do we put him through the rigors of regular chemo? Or do we put him out of his misery ( Read more... )
