If I'm not posting on LJ, it's because life has been that busy.

Last night, we returned from a 10-day visit to nancyblue's family. Her father was going in for a dangerous surgery to replace his aorta. I hope nancyblue's father continues to do well and I am glad
your family/friends are lucky to have you there as their rock of support.

Well, hell...I have Chrome OS on my netbook now, so I guess things are looking up. Or something.

Actually, he's doing ok, as long as that fever isn't from infection, which I'm guessing it's not.

i hope he recovers quickly!

today, while i was at work and doing my duties of assisting with a euthanasia, i asked myself if this job makes us desensitized (or cold, as another vet tech friend has described). but the way you have put it shines a little light on what is otherwise a really shitty part of the job. part of the job you'd think you'd never get used to.

To be totally honest with you, I'm not sure you ever really get used to it, at least as long as you love and care about animals. It's just very hard to get used to it. Death, despite being avoidable, just sucks. There is no part of it that doesn't suck. We try to tell our things like "Well, s/he's not in pain now," but it's such cold comfort unless you can really, genuinely believe in an afterlife. Even then, the misery and grief of the family still isn't really eased ( ... )
