Date: 22 February 1999 Characters: Ginny Weasley, Padma Patil Location: Respective Status: Private Summary: In which Padma reaches out to her friend, albeit belatedly. Completion: Complete
Ginny had neglected to open the package from Padma she'd received yesterday--not because she was upset with her friend, but because she didn't much feel like talking to anyone. It wasn't Padma's fault though, and Ginny suddenly felt guilty.
She opened the package and smiled, though it was a weary expression. The baked good smelled lovely, but Ginny wasn't very hungry these days. She placed the jalebi on the kitchen counter after she read the note. Then she grabbed a quill and inked a note to Padma.
Dear Padma,
Thank you for the jalebi. I think the family will enjoy it. Sorry for not writing yesterday. I don't feel much like myself anymore or maybe this is me. I'm probably going out to Utopia or Belladonna tonight where I can blend into the walls.
Ginny
Ginny grabbed the bottle of firewhiskey she'd secreted into the house and walked upstairs. It was too early to go out, but it wasn't too early to make sure she was good and numb before she hit the bar.
Padma read and re-read Ginny's return letter several times once she had gotten home from work. Each time her gaze passed over Ginny's now-familiar writing, her chest tightened more and more. She had almost convinced herself that she could read between what had been scribed, to glean some deeper, hidden meaning, but the answers, the truth of Ginny's words were proving to be elusive. She sighed and finally dashed off her own letter.
