Verity had rummaged through the icebox, pulling out half a steak pie, a rice dish she'd made with chopped chicken and veg. Oh, and part of a homemade fruitcake. The good kind.

She tucked things into a basket, then added a bottle of what she thought of as a very good white. It could have been rubbish, but she liked it, and wasn't that what counted?

She headed out the door and down the street; she'd been tickled to find that Lisa only lived a few doors down. Best place for friends-to-be, really. Close by. She bounced onto Lisa's porch, then knocked on the door.

Lisa was about halfway finished with preparing everything when she heard the knock at the door. She set down the beans she'd been warming and dashed across the house.

"Verity, hello again! Come in," she said brightly, stepping out of the way so the other witch could come inside. Pointing to the basket, she said, "Did you manage to clear things out as nicely as I have? There won't be any finding of containers with nice pretty green things in them this week, I think." She laughed a little.

"Well, I live alone," Verity said with a grin, "but I'm definitely avoiding green things. And I've got a bottle of white that should go with just about anything, except green, so we're good there."

She giggled, handing the bottle over to Lisa. "You know, if this works, we should do it on a bigger scale. A clean-your-icebox party..."

Lisa took the bottle from her, grinning. There was something so bubbly about Verity that it was hard not to smile with her, yet it didn't seem to grate like some other such personalities she'd encountered. Granted, she didn't know Verity well yet, but she was relatively sure on that point.

She laughed. "Maybe with the girls. I'm not sure most of my other friends would have any leftovers to speak of, and if they did, it would probably have progressed beyond the 'green' stage."
