Hestia had finally relented to let Percy come over. If he'd been any other bloke, she'd have been well shot of him by now, but she cared a lot about Percy. He was the first person she'd been with who'd really understood her and cared about her and not made her feel like a fat ugly idiot.
When Percy knocked on her door, she answered it. He looked nervous. As he should, she thought to herself.
"Come in," she said, closing the door behind him. "Would you like a cup of tea?"
Percy cleared his throat when Hestia opened the door. She looked- well, rather unhappy. He couldn't blame her.
He walked in when she invited him in, nodding a little. "Hello," he said, and it sounded inexplicably awkward leaving his mouth. "Tea would be nice, thank you." He probably wouldn't drink it, but it was always good to have something to do with his hands.
"How are you?" he asked, somewhat quietly, afraid that the question would upset her but unable to be impolite and not even try.
Hestia nodded and flicked her wand at the kettle which began to boil. She poured them each a cup of chamomile and set them down on the coffee table in front of the couch. She didn't put out any biscuits. Percy definitely didn't deserve biscuits.
"Oh, I'm wonderful, Percy," Hestia replied sarcastically. "I had a really lovely weekend. You know, my sister forgot my birthday too, so you're in good company. She popped by on Saturday with some chocolates. As usual." Hestia's resentment hadn't stopped her from devouring the box in one tearful sitting, though.
So she was going to use sarcasm as a defense. Percy sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, but he couldn't really blame her. He was mad at himself for being irritated already when he should be the repentant one.
"I did not forget," he said, and then winced. That was probably not the right thing to say. "I mean, I wanted it to be nice, I did, I thought you'd like that restaurant..." he shook his head. He was not off to a good start.
