"Are you really over Ginny? You dated for awhile, and I'm not asking this because I want to do any clarification of what we have. I'm quite content with that for now," she said, glancing up at him.
"But as your friend, are you really over it all? I mean, you loved her. I just figured you'd get back together, and that it was better not to get my hopes up," she said without thinking. Shite. She didn't need to be giving away that sort of information, not now anyway.
"Guess I said a little too much," she whispered, taking a sip of tea and blushing.
"Oh that was lovely," Pansy said as the names of people started to scroll across the screen.
The idea that one might love more than one person didn't sit particularly well with Pansy, though she supposed true and real love was more complex than any other emotion.
They stood up and made their way, along with the crowd of people, back onto the street. "Thank you, Neville, that was wonderful. I'll have to ask Hermione how it all works when I see her later this week."
Neville was quiet as they made their way outside with the others. Apparently people were expected to start leaving while the program scrolled at the end. He found it curious that they put the program into the show at the beginning and end instead of handing them out like they did that time Gran had taken him to the theatre to see a play. He supposed it was less trouble that way but it didn't really give you anything to take away to use to spark your memory. The two ends of the tickets were the only things he had

"Oh yes, that would be fabulous. This was wonderful, like reading a novel. Do you think all the pictures are that good? I gathered that one was older, or at least was supposed to be older."
"Did you want to explore some more? We could walk around, or get some tea at my place if you want," she said, biting her lip. "Unless you had something else in mind, of course."
Neville had to turn his attention back to Pansy. She was all keyed up and excited, which made it hard to keep up with her while his mind was working on other things. Not exactly on other things, he was focused on her but not on what she was saying. That part there at the end with Rick and Isla left Neville with a powerful urge to grab Pansy and kiss her until they were both quaking. Definitely not the sort of kissing a bloke needed to be doing on a seventh date

"Yes, I thought that sounded familiar, but it's not as if I have much experience with Muggle history."
She grinned as he hummed some of the song from the film, thinking that was rather adorable. He looked away from her though, and she wondered what it was she had done. "Oh, um," she looked to the ground, confused. What had she done that made him look upset?
"We can keep exploring, I'm not sure what we'd do back in Hogsmeade, anyway," she said, shrugging her shoulders. Maybe he didn't want to be alone with her, and staying out was preferable.
"I've read a bit about Grindelwald." He'd been trying to understand dark wizards and what formed them.
"Um? Um, what, Pansy? You can talk to me," he said.
She shrugged and he thought maybe she was tired of having his arm around her. "There are lots of things to do in Hogsmeade like there are lots of things to do here. We just have to find something you'd like. Here or there, I'm happy with either... or at least I will be once you tell me what I'm doing that's taken the bounce out of your step. I can move my arm if it's bothering you."
"Your arm is fine, Neville," she said, slightly annoyed. "You just started looking away like you were uncomfortable, so I wasn't sure if there was something you'd rather do, or if you were getting tired and maybe wanted to go home," she said cooly.
She hated being insecure about things, and even more so, hated her reaction when things got difficult. She became angry and defensive, which was stupid, she knew.
She sighed. "It was an emotional film and it's an emotional day. I'm sure it's just all catching up to me," she said at length.
"I was thinking so much about wanting to kiss you that I was having trouble paying attention to what you were saying. It's worse when you bite lower lip like you do sometimes. I'm sorry I upset you," he didn't want her to feel like she'd done something wrong when it was all on him.
Neville stopped and looked at her for a moment before nodding once, deciding that it was probably best to take her home if she was angry. "We'll find a safe place to Disapparate and get you home, then," he sad a little sadly. He shifted the umbrella to his other hand, putting a little space between them.
That was the stupidest thing she'd ever heard. Grabbing his hand, she pulled him under an awning, out of the way of other people. "So kiss me," she said, crossing her arms over her chest. "If you want to kiss me, do it. I don't want our day to be over, and if the only reason you were being weird for a minute is that you want to kiss me, let's have it then."
Honestly. When had she given him the indication that it wasn't okay? Sure, they were in public, but it wasn't like that stopped them earlier. And then to get all mopey? Pansy was annoyed and relived at the same time- it was stupid for him to worry about things like that, but she was also starting to worry he was far too perfect for the likes of her.
"It doesn't work that way and you know it, so don't patronize me, Pansy. It wasn't a good time or a good place for it. And you were talking, so I wanted to give you the right sort of attention." He was careful moving the umbrella but he crossed his own arms, mimicking her posture.
"I was perfectly fine once I had that weird minute, or however long it was, to get myself settled. Like I said, it's your birthday, and I want to do things you want to do. Whether that's here or back in Hogsmeade, I really don't have a preference. If it's an emotional day that's catching up to you, then let's get you home where you can relax without me around to upset you and make you angry."
Neville sighed, "Look, I know I'm rubbish at this. I really don't understand what I'm supposed to do half the time but I'm not going to pretend to be something I'm not, Pansy. I'm not the sort of bloke that's ever going to be comfortable grabbing a girl and giving her a heated snog in front of an audience. A quick kiss here and there or a snog in an out of the way
( ... )
She stared at him, her mouth open and her fists clenching. "You're not rubbish at this, damn it. You're so far from it; everything is planned and perfect and you say the right things and leave me flowers and take me to dinner and ask about my day and- Merlin! I can't measure up to that."
Pansy looked up at him. "That's not what I want- the snogging in public, I mean. I'm sorry if I implied otherwise, but I don't want to look like two randy teenagers who can't keep their hands off each other."
She clenched her teeth as he spoke of her not enjoying dating him. "I told you I'd be honest. I don't need clarification, I don't want it. If you clarify things, you'll just realize you don't want me. Trust me, I'm far too selfish for that just yet
( ... )
"The hell you don't! You read something and you think about how it might help my parents. You ask about my day and you make me laugh and smile more than I think I have in years. Merlin, Pansy you kiss like a bloody Succubus. I can barely think when you kiss me. I can barely think when I think about kissing you. How can you possibly think you can't measure up to what I do? I feel like I've hardly done anything in comparison to you!"
Neville released a deep breath. "Good. Because I feel like a randy teenager who can't keep his hands off of you sometimes but I'm trying hard not to make that sort of mistake. We can't build on randy, Pansy. I may not know exactly what I want yet, but I do know I don't want something that's only about randy bits, that's not going to work for me. I can't help feeling randy sometimes but I can help how I deal with it, and that's not for public display
( ... )
She smiled sadly. "A Succubus? Oh Neville, that's why I started to fancy you. You say the strangest but sweetest things." She shook her head. "You gave me a chance, and if that was all you ever did, Neville, it would be enough."
Pansy laughed a little when he talked about being randy- it was much better this way, the blunt and slightly awkward Neville. "I know the feeling," she said, looking up at him.
Then, he was hugging her, and it did feel better. She saw the flick of understanding in his eyes just before he held her, and was thrilled that he finally seemed to hear what she was saying. Or, more likely, she was able to communicate it well enough for him to understand.
"I told you I'm difficult. You'll go and spoil me and then I'll be even worse," she said into his chest. Pulling away, she wiped at her eyes. "See? Difficult. And a bloody mess. I blame the movie. How's a girl supposed to stay level headed after something like that?"
Neville fumbled in the pocket of his coat for a moment before extracting a handkerchief to hand to her. "Sorry about my language. I got a little carried away." He nodded, "It was an emotional movie. What do you say we try something different? Not stay here, but not take you home yet, either?"
"Sure, I could do that," she smiled, taking the hankie from him. "Sorry, I got makeup on it," she blushed. "I'll clean in later."
She looked up at him and placed a soft kiss on his jaw. "You're wonderful, really. I want to be here with you, or anywhere, even. Just sitting and snuggling on a couch would be fine. I just like you."
"But as your friend, are you really over it all? I mean, you loved her. I just figured you'd get back together, and that it was better not to get my hopes up," she said without thinking. Shite. She didn't need to be giving away that sort of information, not now anyway.
