"Mum, my eye is fine!!" Michael knew he sounded like a whiny five year old, but his Mum had been nagging him about seeing a healer the whole time he'd been home.

Melinda Corner sighed. Why was her son so stubborn? She'd been worried about his injuries since they'd occurred, of course, and most of them had healed, but his eye still seemed to bother him. She'd found him sitting on the couch more than once over the last week, struggling to read whatever book was in front of him at the time.

"Will you humor me at least, then? You did manage to convince me to make enough food for an army for you and your housemates, the least you could do is agree to go see Healer Wolverton."

Merlin! He knew she'd go for the guilt trip, eventually. "Do you think he can see me this morning? I'd like to head back to Hogsmeade tomorrow, to celebrate the New Year with my mates, and I need to be at the Ministry this afternoon."

He could tell by the smug look on her face that she'd already made him an appointment.

"Just let me get my trainers, Mum." Maggie had gotten him a new pair for Christmas, and had gleefully tossed his old pair in the bin.

They bundled up and walked together through the streets of Boyton Cross to Healer Wolverton's office. His nurse tutted over Michael for a few minutes and led them to an exam room.

They'd only been waiting a minute before Healer Wolverton entered the room. "Hello Melinda, and wee Michael...only maybe not so wee any longer, eh?" He looked at Michael over his glasses. "All grown up now, aren't we?" He grinned.

Michael cringed. He knew he should have just gone to St. Mungo's.

Healer Wolverton checked Michael's eyes with a variety of rather scary looking magical objects, and had him read an eye chart on the wall across the room.

"The eye is healing, although a little slower than I'd like, frankly." He looked at Michael. "I'm going to increase the strength of your prescription, and try not to overuse the eye."

Michael sighed. "NEWT's are in less than two months, but I'll try." He got up from the exam chair and grabbed his cloak.

"Okay, Mum. You've gotten your way. Now, I think we have time to stop for some tea before I need to get to work." He offered her his arm and led her from the healer's office.
