Katie sat sandwiched between Leanne and Mona on the couch, eating crisps and enjoying her last day with the Raffertys. Mona was filling them in on the latest Muggle celebrity gossip: who was dating who, which politician was having an affair, who was the new Hollywood heartthrob, all the juicy bits Katie missed out on living in the Wizarding world. Mona, being a Squib, was at University in Belfast. She and Leanne were Irish twins; less than a year apart, and it'd been hard when Leanne had gotten her Hogwarts letter and Mona hadn't. But they'd survived the separation and Mona came home to visit a lot, although not as much as her mother would have liked.

"Kay, you're going to write us on the first, right?"

"Why? Can't I wait until the second? I think I'll be sleeping on the first, or nursing a hangover."

Mona giggled. "You sure you won't be doing anything else, hmmm? Or anyone else, I should say?"

Katie smacked her. "Oy! It's only the first date. I'm no slapper! I don't know what you get up to at Uni, but some of us don't jump right into bed with a bloke." She crossed her arms and glared at Mona while Leanne made a coughing noise that sounded suspiciously like "Paris". "You know, I am trying to better myself here. You're not being very supportive, Lee."

"I am, I am!" Leanne protested quickly, "It's just so easy. I'm sorry, Kay. We tease because we love," she said, giving Mona a look, and Mona nodded her head quickly.

"So, will you write to us, Kay? Tell us how the date goes with Dean?" Leanne asked hopefully.

"Yes, I will. As long as you tell me how your New Year's goes. Have you decided where you're going yet?"

"This one," Mona said, jerking her head, "wants to stay here for some stupid reason. I want to go up to Belfast, where the real parties are going to be."

"Well, excuse me for not wanting to get ditched as soon as you find your mates," Leanne retorted.

Katie sighed, caught in the middle of another sisterly squabble. "Right, I'm going to go find Dec and Gerry. I'll leave you two to sort out your plans." She stood up, ignoring their mild protests and headed upstairs. She found Dec laying on his bed, smoking and reading. Katie hesitated in the doorway before knocking. Even though she and Declan had made up after their fight, she still felt a bit awkward around him. She could apologize for everything she'd said, but she couldn't unsay them.

"Heya," he said with a smile when he noticed her. "Sick of the gruesome twosome at last?"

"A little," Katie said, moving to sit beside him on the bed. "Whatcha reading?"

"It's a journal on Healing. A little out of date, but the ideas are still sound," he said, putting out his fag. "I've been thinking about that Quidditch tournament you were telling me about. I don't know if I should really be your go-to guy for Healing. I mean, it's been a while, you know?"

Katie nodded, feeling a bit deflated. She'd been hoping to come back after the break with at least one of their problems solved to McGonagall's specifications.

"Easy now, Kay. I said I wasn't the best choice. But I think I've found you someone better," Declan said, with a slightly mischievous look. "Now I think you're familiar with Gwenog Jones?"

"Are you crazy? Of course I am! She's only the most brilliant Quidditch player in the country!" Katie exclaimed.

"Well, her sister is a Healer. Really nice girl. I've sent her an owl, asking her if she'd be willing to work the tournament. I might have mentioned something about asking Gwenog to play as well," Declan said, grinning.

Katie threw her arms around him. "Oh, Dec! You're the best! Do you think she'll say yes? It'll be so good if we get Gwenog Jones in our little tournament. This is brilliant. After New Year's, I'll have to get together with Demelza so we can plan everything. Oh I hope she says yes!"

Declan patted her on the back and laughed as she rambled. "Slow down! Don't get ahead of yourself, girl. Besides, you can do all that when you get back to Hogsmeade. We've only got you for a few more hours, you know."

"You're right," Katie said, feeling a bit silly. "Where's Gerry? I haven't seen him all day?"

"Dunno; probably down at the pub. He's been mooning over the barmaid there for a while now," Declan said, exasperated. "Bloody idiot. Forget him. Let's grab Mona and Leanne and go do something fun before Mum & Da get home, yeah?"

Katie nodded and set off to enjoy the rest of her time with the Raffertys.
