Harry got back home with time to spare before Mrs. Malfoy was due to come by. He went looking immediately for his yet-to-be-named puppy. Honestly, Harry hadn't wanted to leave it at home while he was at work with only Kreacher and Chrookshanks for company. He'd just seemed too small to fend for himself all afternoon. And what if he needed to go out? It wasn't as if he could Apparate or open doors. Nor could he really hold his bladder for long -- Harry had learned that yesterday. Or rather, his rug had.
In the end, he'd left the puppy in the kitchen with Kreacher, whom he'd given strict instructions based on one of the books Hermione had given him as part of his Christmas gifts. He was there when Harry found him entertaining himself with a hank of rope half as long as he was, that he must have got from Kreacher. Harry reached down quickly to scoop him up. "Hey you," he said. "No news on the name front, but we'll get there."
He moved over to the fridge after greeting Kreacher, and found an apple. He bit into it on his way back upstairs, wondering if Hermione or Ron would be around or if they would get home before Mrs. Malfoy showed up.
