Exhausted, Susan dropped her bag in the hallway and went to slump down on the sofa. It was great to be back - she'd cut her visit home short because her parents has begun to discuss the wonderful places they'd been to during the last year. Sometimes, Susan wasn't entirely sure that they knew there'd been a war - that Susan had been fighting for her life against Death Eaters and giants and acromantulae. It was all about them, and it drove her up the wall. Oh, Antigua was beautiful, and wasn't Tibet pretty (they'd spent several months hiking there, apparently). Susan might have loved the idea of going on holiday if not for the fact that her parents made her hate every country they'd ever been to. Why couldn't they have been there. Surely losing Aunt Amelia had hurt one of them... Maybe it was their way of coping, but Susan didn't think so. They'd always been that way.
She wanted to be cheered up, and there were a few people she knew who could do just that. She began writing out owls, copying manually so that she could keep herself busy. The post office would be open again, so she'd be able to use their owls, not knowing whether some of her friends were back at Hogsmeade or still at home.
I know you'll probably be busy at midnight on New Years, and I know this is short notice, but I'm having nibbles and drinks on New Years' Day. Homemade sweets and lemon curd and various little salmon and cheese and fruit party nibblets.
I hope you can make it... Say - Eight until late?
Lots of love, Susan
P.S. If you liked the rum balls I made you for Christmas, you're going to love some of the things I'm planning for the party.
