My summer so far...

Two weeks ago, my friend Jolene loaned me a small, 4-harness loom. This has been both good and bad. It's good that I get to play around with weaving, and it's a great way to use up some of my yarn stash. It's bad, because now I keep looking for used looms on Craigslist and eBay.

Ooooh, your weaving looks awesome! Weaving is a mystery to me. I keep telling myself I'm not going to learn to do it, because I don't need another fiber habit hobby, but some of the handspun art yarns look way better woven than knitted or crocheted...

Poor Samantha-- 3 teeth at once? Too bad it's the middle of summer, otherwise she could be a jack o'lantern for Halloween.

That mitten is really pretty!

There is a ton of vocabulary that goes with weaving that I am still trying to learn. Heddles, beaters, and reeds. (And on a rigid heddle loom, they are kind of all the same tool.) I'm not really using handspun yet, but that's because I don't want to waste it while I'm still figuring things out. Like my selvedges are a nightmare right now...

Samantha almost has a vampiric thing going, too. :)

So glad this summer is leagues better than last- though last summer set the bar pretty low for subsequent summers! I wonder if you would see all the sheep around here as walking fodder for your loom? ;)

Yes, I totally would! There is a NZ company called Ashford, and they make spinning wheels and looms and other "wool accessories." If I can ever come to visit, I am definitely going to try to get a tour. :)

I thought I left a message here, but I guess I did it wrong.

Your weaving is beautiful! I am also getting into weaving. I have a Kromski Harp - a rigid heddle loom and I love it. Still in the making scarves stage.

Thanks! I was planning to get a rigid heddle loom to start off with, but I have too much fun playing with the treadles. (So do my kids.)
