I have finished OotP. It is... well, I don't want to give anything away outside a cut-tag, but it's... different. Some of the differences I knew about from JKR's interviews, but some of them were... unexpected

I agree so much with your overview - except, strangely enough, I found myself much more sympathetic to Ron, and all I wanted to do with Harry was pick him up and lock him in a room to keep him safe - safe from danger, and safe from emotional hurt.
However, I think the pimp-jackets the Weasley twins wear in the end deserve at least a mention...
I wouldn't say Ron was unsympathetic. In fact, I think JKR really made an effort to show more of a loveable side to him, with his anxiety over Quidditch and so on. (The whole "Weasley is our King" plot-arc was brilliant.) I just... I guess I wanted Ron to be more useful. But Harry is so isolated in this book, it's hard to get a true feel for what's going on with anyone else.
As for the bit about locking Harry up to protect him, I suspect Harry would have resented you very hotly if you had. :)
As for the jackets, I'd have hoped the Twins had better taste than that, but really I ought to have known...
Regarding the jackets -- never before have I so clearly pictured the Phelps twins as Fred and George. Between that, Snape's "...displeasure" and Ron's comments about bandwagon jumpers who aren't real fans, I'd say JKR has had some fun with fandom this time around.
(She also had Lily mention the squid in a romantic context. But that's probably only significant in my mind.)

...to avoid spoilers. I haven't even finished Goblet of Fire yet(I know, shame on me! ;)), so am avoiding spoilers for Pheonix like the plague. Just wanted to say: You finished the entire book in a day? Heavens...did you sleep? Eat? ::grin::
Oh, did it completely Joss the D&L trilogy, like you feared?

np. Glad I know whom I'm replying to, though. :)
I didn't just finish the book in a day -- I finished it in just over four hours. And I was even trying to read a bit more attentively than I usually do, for fear of missing something important...
D&L has not been completely Jossed, though, no. I'm still stunned at how well it stood up, actually.
whom you omitted from your list - he's worth a solo entry too.
Harry is angry. And what is Dumbledore doing to help him? Is Harry getting any support from anywhere? The post-traumatic stress he's going through has to lead somewhere. Unquestionably, Harry was going to blow up - and Dumbledore has reaped the whirlwind
