What the hell world

Aug 10, 2011 02:25

So, England is pretty much burning, which is insane. Even more insane? 2011 being what 2011 has been, four days of rioting in the UK? Barely a blip on American news stations. (At least mine in North Carolina, don't know about elsewhere. I do know I checked the NY Times front page yesterday and it wasn't on there ( Read more... )

What the hell, America. Holland's been covering the riot-related news since day one (though of course, we are nearer by--but even then). Still, I'd say it ought to be at least mentioned. What was it like a couple of years ago when people rioted in Paris?

Lmao. Is your TP exchange fic absurdly long as well?

Welcome back, by the way! The video is amazing. Passionate music, I likey. (And now I'm wondering how awesome it must be to play the guitar while sitting on a chair and feeling the ocean around your feet). Okay I'm going to find a download of this.

I'm glad to hear Carrie is doing well. And why would they want to change her trach size?

Oh, it's being mentioned in America, it's just not front page news. That would be the Downgrade/the Stock market, which, you know, is understandable. It's just, in America, stuff that happens in the UK usually gets a ton more front page/above the fold coverage.

It is absurdly long...sort of. I have it in two main halves, if I post the first half, it won't be too long. If I post it with the unbeated second half, um, it will be big bang length.

Frank Turner is very much awesome, and he sings with a ton of passion. Def. check more of his stuff out.

Doctors will change trach size over the months/years as the patient becomes less-reliant on bottle-machine oxygen. Carrie's already had her trach size downgraded once since she's been out of the hospital (from her stay in Feb), and while then she was on a constant 5 liters of O2, now she's down to 1 liter/.5L. That's the main reason the downgrade them in someone like Carrie who will have a trach for the rest of their lives.

Huh, that's weird. But I assume the Stock market pushes the rioting in the UK off the cover page. I mean, it's of greater importance than people looting and committing arson in the UK.

Wow. Mine is about 6500 words, the way I sent it off. Though I could easily write more in the 'verse because it's got a lot of background and unmentioned stuff. Still, compared to my Band of Brothers exchange fic it's much longer, and it's the longest fic I finished in either TP or BoB.

Ngl. Okay I have been listening to that damn song on repeat. And when I was at the PO this afternoon, I saw this mag on music I used to buy each month. I bought it, the first since October 2009, because it has an interview with Miles Kane and one with Frank Turner. YEAH.

Ooh. So basically, they do it to make her more comfortable?

Yeah, I think if the econmic downgrade hadn't happened the same week of the UK riots, our news places in America would be all over it.

That's a ton of words, bb! Can't wait to see your fic. The prompt for my fic lended itself to a longer word cout, just for world building alone. It's full of dialogue too, so that has a lot to do with it. I have found though, that when I write TP fic it always tends to be longer than my BoB fic.

I am so glad Frank Turner is starting to get more attention. He really is one of my favs and can play a hell of a show. I really, really need to do my Frank Tuner rec list/mix one of these days.

And yeah, it's basically to make her more comfortable/work with her while she gets used to it.

Oh come on! Like you wouldn't have found it out yourself.

It is good though, isn't it? I love me some Reed/Rory. :3

I would've, probably, years later and been all, "But how did I mis this!"

It is good. I sort of love all the characters, but I'm waiting until my copies of chapter 1 & 2 to arrive to form like, any serious attatchments.

Chapters 1 and 2 are the same as the webcomic, except Emirain adds some new pages in they don't feature online. I don't believe you need the extra pages to follow the story, but they are a hell of a lot of fun to read.

I'm still waiting on my copy of chapter 2, plus a Rory charm and post it notes. Did you order from them? Or Akadot? The girls are way behind on shipping since they have so many orders so it may be a while.

I did order directly from them, but I'm okay with waiting. It gives me something to look forward to.

I've said this a lot over the past few months, but THIS YEAR, MAN. THIS FUCKING YEAR. WHAT IS UP WITH THIS GODDAMN YEAR ( ... )

Seriously, this fucking year. Like, I honestly can't recall, in terms of my personal life or shit going on in the rest of the world, that one.single.year. has been more insane and just full of WTFuckery.

So glad to hear the massive riots haven't come your way, Skew, but all the best for your friends/family around the country. But seriously, the whole thing makes no sense. Like, most of the rioting does seem to be just b/c they can get away with it, and the lack of response just gobsmacks me. (But, then again, I can from America. The land were even peaceful protests has cops in riot gear at the ready.)

There seems to be a ton of fics/mixes/long fics coming for Pacific Exchange and I cannot wait. Right now, if I send in my whole fic without a true beta read on the second half, it will be over 19k, so, um, yeah. It REALLY got away from me. The whole fic is done I just need someone to say that, you know, it all makes sense to someone who did not write it.

It's just been one thing after another, things that would normally keep the media going for months. The Arab Spring was one of the most significant geopolitical happenings of the past decade and it already feels so long ago, for example ( ... )
