Give me some peanuts and crackerjacks

So, PBS is currently re-playing Ken Burns' The Tenth Inning which is basically a sequel to his amazing 1994 Baseball documentary. So, true story about me: Baseball documentaries always warm my heart and make me have a good cry. I sob like a baby EVERY single time I hear Lou Gehrig's speech, which, growing up a born-and-bred Yankees fans, means I've ( Read more... )

I am the same way about basketball :) (well, NBA basketball not college basketball unless the Ohio State Buckeyes are playing or it's March Madness). I absolutely love The Mighty Ducks too, those movies got me into hockey! Though I must say that I stopped watching hockey when the Ducks traded Paul Kariya and dropped the "mighty" from their name and the duck from their logo. But, the NBA is my life 24/7 and I love it, so so much, even after a certain *ahem* lying asshat left :P As for other sports movies, I love The Sandlot, 3 Ninjas (karate counts!!) and The Big Green.

In fandom news: I seriously want a White Collar spin-off of Keller being the evil smug bastard that he is. Ross McCall does a great job in the role.
FUCK YES. I actually said the same thing on my LJ, haha.

Growing up in North Carolina, while not being a native child of said state, means I have sort of a love/hate relationship with the ACC/March Madness/Final Four b/c it's gets so insane and intense down here. Like, during your high school classes, your teachers turn on the tv to watch the games. In college, half the profs CANCEL classes. When I went to NC State, and had to live between the Duke-Carolina-State-Wake fighting, I honestly was just baffled and amazed.

That being said, I do like to watch basketball in-person. Out of all pro-sports it's the one I've attended the most games for. I still have yet to go to a Bobcats game, but I went to SO many Hornets games in the past.

I own all the 3 Ninjas movies, I will forever love the Big Green, and The Sandlot is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Seriously, Ross McCall as Keller is just so smug-bastard-amazing.

Oh, yeah, definitely I think every high school did this. My teachers did this all through school and half the time we'd just sit and watch the games and not even bother about class. I remember this year that school and work was let out early so everyone could go home and watch the Buckeyes play in the Sugar Bowl. America sure likes its sports. I can definitely understand the Duke-Carolina thing. Being that I'm from Ohio, Ohio State-Michigan gets crazy (my sister lives in Columbus near the Schottenstein and the football field and, man, when Michigan comes to town it's effing insane).

You grow-up in New York, you must be a Yankees or Mets fan, it's required. Growing up in the 1980s most were Mets fans, but my Dad loved Don Mattingly aka Donnie Baseball, who stuck with the Yankees through many a shitty season so my love started there and never went away.

I do agree, though, that you sort of have to grow up in USA and, like, Cuba and Japan to get the intense baseball love. It's just what you grow-up with, you know? And a lot of Americans can't stand it b/c "it's so slow, it's so long, nothing exciting happens." But, you know, I can't stand American football, so I guess it balances out.

Carrie is a tough chick, indeed.

I do find it funny that in this past year, both Eion Bailey and Ross McCall have appeared on USA Network shows that aired back-to-back.
