I read one Michael Marshall Smith story about ten years ago, and it traumatized me to the point where I've never tried any of this other work.

I get that! I love the way he thinks, though. One of Us is probably my favorite, and not nearly as grim as the others.

The story that got me was called More Later. It was in one of those best Fantasy/Horror anthologies.

I can't remember Thurman's fan ID, but I do recall that her original fandom was The Real Ghostbusters.

Thanks--just idle curiosity, really. I recognize certain fannish characteristics in the book.

See, I'm a total bitter ol' fangirl about this: I've lived through so many different ways of interacting fannishly--hell, I sent LoCs to zines!--that I am just waiting to see how this shakes out. I have found OpenID quite useful, and I am planning on using just one reading list by hook or by crook, though admittedly I am not 100% clear on how I will get one list to suck in the other.

I've actually been working on a Nightlife x-over for a while. Needless to say, it may be a little while more.

Ooooooh! I would read that liek woah!

R/E the author's fandom identity, I'm pretty sure she wrote under something close to her real name.

I did not tell you about Nightlife because it and sequel read like fanfiction for a TV show that doesn't exist. That is, she tells me a lot about Niko and Cal and Robin, but she doesn't actually show me the characteristics they're supposed to have, or why they should care so much about each other, especially Robin. (So clearly slash-friendly, though!)

It whetted my SPN hunger during a break between seasons, but Niko pales in comparison to Dean, and not just because he's not played by Jensen Ackles. I've already decided not to pick up the third one.

This makes me sad! Not your decision, the fact that you felt the need to make it, if you see what I mean. I will read the next one and see if I can feel the love. Robin is a problem because only Niko or Robin POV, or a more non-mopey/outward-scrutinizing Cal, could explain why Robin sticks around. I could see Niko being awesome, but the little brother POV is just too limited to sell me.
