So in an effort to stave off boredom and distract myself from my illness, I've been zipping through "Rome." Just finished the 1st season and enjoyed it a great deal, certainly more than I expected to. I am disappointed that they killed off a character I liked very much but that seems to be trendy these days. Spectacular porduction values, ( Read more... )

Glad you enjoyed Rome! (My father* caught up with the tapes whilst I was over your side of the Pond last summer - we're actually recycling them now. His overall conclusion? "Too much domestic rubbish, and not enough hard politicking at the sharp end of a Gladius." *Rolls eyes.*)

*Ancient Rome is - like the Napoleonic era - one of "his" periods.

Heh! Well, I like the "domestic rubbish" to balance the politicking...I think mostly because that's the sort of history we rarely get to see or hear about. I like seeing the nuances of class and station, the details of living spaces etc. that so often are cast aside in favor of the senate chamber. But that's just me!
