The Rules of Rivelata

Make Life Simple by Following These

1. KEEP IC AND OOC PROBLEMS SEPARATE
Don't vent your frustration for a player via your character. Period.

2. KEEP CONSISTENT
You applied to this game with an application good enough to be accepted, so keep it up. Good grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. are all necessary to keeping yourself in the game. Additionally, you need to stick with your character's concept that you established in your application - don't let them stray away from what they are. Keep your character IC.

3. STAY ACTIVE
Along with writing your character consistently well, keep them consistently active! To ensure that characters aren't lying around inactive, there will be activity checks every month. Keep that in mind.

4. COMMUNICATION IS KEY
This is especially applicable to villainous and generally not-nice characters and their players! If you plan to inflict injury to characters, damage to property or possible emotional torment (such as 4th wall breaking), make sure you get permission from the player to do so!

5. NO GODMODDING OR METAGAMING
Godmodding is when one character takes control of another character in prose, such as, "Character X punches Character Y in the face, knocking him into a wall." Another example is using invasive powers, such as mindreading, without permission. This behavior is not permitted. Ask permission before your character takes action against another character in this manner.

Metagaming is when OOC knowledge (knowledge that a character would not know), is used ICly in an attempt to gain an advantage over another character. This behavior is also not permitted, so stay away from it.

6. NO SNOWFLAKES IN THE TROPICS
Yes, yes, everyone is special and unique. But they aren't the epitome of perfection - everyone has flaws, and please acknowledge them in your character. Certainly, when they've been virtually stripped of their magic and all, they aren't going to be going over 9,000 anytime soon during their stay in Rivelata. Basically: no Mary Sues/Gary Stus.

7. KEEP POSTS IN THE PROPER COMMUNITIES
rivelata is where all journal entries (first person) go.
rivelatalogs is where all logs (third person) go.
rivelataooc is the OOC community where all OOC posts go (such as modposts, hiatus notices, etc).
crackelata is our crack OOC community that homes weekly memes and other silliness. This comm is optional to join.
pornelata contains adult material. This community is restricted by age according to the rules of LJ and all entries within it are f-locked. This comm is optional to join.

8. MATURE CONTENT
Do not post X-rated content in the rivelata rivelatalogs rivelataooc or crackelata comms. We have a community specifically for adult content, pornelata. Violence, swearing, and everything else offensive under the sun is a-okay, though - just mark it accordingly or place it under a cut.

9. TAGGING
In this game, we have a lot of tagging going on. Each log entry should include 1) the names of all characters appearing within that thread and 2) a place tag if the "Where" is a public venue and not a private residence. Posts to the Rivelata community as a journal entry need only have the tag of the original writer (and thus only ever have one tag per entry).

In Conclusion...
Above all else, respect your fellow player and the moderators. If you just play nice and follow the rules, then you will avoid receiving strikes or being permanently banned. Any issues that one player has with another player should be handled by sending a copy of the PtP Complaint Form to the rivelata moderators: rivelata[AT]gmail[DOT]com.

Age Requirement
This game is intended for players 13 and older, or essentially, if you're old enough to use LiveJournal, you can join this game. If you aren't, you'll have to be banned. It's not really about how well you conduct yourself or how good your writing is; the law is the law.

Chat Guidelines
Rivelata has an almost constant OOC chat going for the convenience and enjoyment of our players. All we ask is that this not be used as an area to vent about issues regarding the game or your fellow players, moderators included. Please remember to be respectful to your fellow players, follow the rules and refrain from linking/discussing any inflammatory or offensive subjects.

Addendums
As the game progresses, new ideas pop up and new questions get asked that the moderators may not have thought about beforehand. Most of these specific questions will get added to the FAQ page, but it is the job of players to keep an eye open for modposts in the OOC community alerting them to these additions. Extremely important additions will get added to the Rules page, but alerts will still get posted to the rivelataooc community.
