She wasn't in the least scared. She was petrified.

The spirit of the Tiger in her had never before been so violent, roaring within and clawing at the insides of her head. Urging her to take up the call broad-casted in the journals. Join them, it purred, join your kind in the jungle.

But Kisa did not want to be a 'baby monster'. She wanted to be herself; a young girl, shy but bright who wanted to make new friends here in this new world.

The door burst open, and she startled with fright. A most sorry sight to see; a little girl surrounded by torn paper like confetti, pressed into a corner of the room with her face drenched with tears she was unable to stop.
Atop her head were tiger ears, and she also had a tail fully bristled and alert. Her fingernails and toenails were clawed.

"Please help me!" She sobbed, fingers clenched in the tattered remains of her beautiful sundress. "Everything hurts, sir."

Guy froze at the sight, terrified. His rash actions had brought him here, but they hadn't prepared him for what he would see: a girl already half transformed. And into a tiger, seemingly, unlike all the rest of the people affected.

He hesitated before taking a step forward, and then another. His phobia was still there and strong, but he knew he shouldn't concentrate on the fact that this was a girl; he should concern himself with the fact that this was a person in need, a child no less.

He inched forward slowly, eventually dropping to his knees in front of her. He brought a hand up to her face-- flinching away only once-- to whip the tears from her eyes, shushing her like a little child. "I'm going to help you, somehow." He didn't want to tell her that he had no clue what to do. She didn't need to lose all her hope. "Wh-what can I do to make everything better?"

Was he scared too? She couldn't tell by sight alone; her eyes were still glazed with tears that continued to fall. His touch to her cheek, that slight flinch, gave it away.

They both had little clue as to what was happening or what to do next, but Kisa was relieved someone had come for her. She knew her cousins were also suffering and it would do no one good if she turned to them when they had their own problems to face.

Someone had come for her. That was enough to placate the girl, hiccuping for breath through her sobbing. She reached for Guy's hand the next time he moved to brush away her tears. Her little hands kept his palm cupped to her cheek, the contact soothing her frayed nerves.

At least she would not go through this completely alone.

The realization hit him then, as Kisa cupped his hand to her small face, that maybe there was nothing he could do. And Guy hated himself at the moment for thinking that. There was always something. He would accept defeat yet.

But he'd have to act fast. Part of him wanted to hug her, and hold her close to him, but he knew he'd never be able to do it. It was already hard enough just to keep his hand on her cheek, but he was fighting for that, just to give her some human contact, because then, maybe.. Maybe that was it! Maybe if he just tried to get her to concentrate on her human side, but... Guy shook his head. Anything was worth a shot, and even if this didn't work, at least she would be comforted through the pain.

"Hey, cutie, I'm here to help you out, okay? C-can you tell me your name?"

Knowing that Kisa was in trouble had made Yuki feel absolutely horrible for having been preoccupied with other suffering members of Rivelata and with himself. He should have been focused on her from the very start; he'd been foolish to think she'd be okay.

If anything, past experiences should have taught him that she wasn't as emotionally strong as he was. She was just a little girl.

"Kisa!" He exclaimed as he threw his bedroom door open and stormed down the stairs to see her and some complete stranger nearly embracing. Who was this man?

As he approached them, his eyes widened as he took Kisa's condition in. I'm such an idiot.... I should have been here for her from the very beginning.... Regardless of his own temptations-- regardless of his personal battle against this. She was so much more important, and he was affected on such a lesser scale.

"Kisa," he whispered as he kneeled beside them, "I'm so sorry."

His panicked expression mirrored her own, and she gulped back her sobs long enough to speak.
"Kisa. Sohma Kisa. A-and you?" She whimpered, rubbing her eyes with her other hand. The pain was adding to her frightened tears, vision mostly gone. Her body was having trouble staying consistently human or transforming into her tiger cub body.

The slightest sheen of fur could be seen traveling from her clawed fingers to the back of her hands. The same for her feet. The transformation was not the painful part, for she was used to becoming a tiger cub every now and then. It was the fight to stay human, to force the change back that was agony.

She heard someone come down the stairs, and her little tiger ears perked at his voice.
"Yuki-kun!" Kisa gasped, lunging for him. "Yuki!" They could embrace without her transforming, all for the best for Kisa was unsure how she could fight the calling if in her tiger cub form.

She turned to Guy. "Please keep me safe. I don't want to be a baby monster."

"K-kisa, huh? That's a cute name for a cute little girl," he said softly, doing his best, for her sake, to keep the fear out of his voice. "My name's Guy..." He wanted to continue on, maybe ask a few more questions, but he found his eyes wandering, noting the fur. It wasn't working...

He jumped at the sound of the other person, letting go of Kisa. Good, someone she knows, he thought, raising his eyes to the other person. "You know her, don't you? Do you know if... do you know if there is anything we can do to stop this?"

He brought his eyes back to the little girl. "Don't worry, Kisa, I won't... There is no way a sweet little girl like you could be a baby monster."

Yuki returned the embrace and slowly ran his fingers through Kisa's hair, sighing in relief. "She's very dear to me," he replied. "...I don't know what can be done to stop this."

...At least this stranger seemed genuinely concerned for Kisa's safety. He narrowed his eyes slightly and looked from the stranger back to Kisa. In a place like this, at a time like this-- He hadn't thought that anyone would look out for someone they hadn't any personal connections to. He supposed ... he was surprised and grateful.

"We just need to be here with her, and maybe try to keep her distracted...."

Yuki smelled so familiar. He smelled of home and all things that she associated with home. Kisa clung to him, closing her eyes and trying to calm her hiccuping breaths.

She knew her anxiety would only hasten the transformation process, and that was something she wished she had control over. The little girl knew it was close to damning if she did transform into a tiger cub. Then all her humanity would take a back seat to instinct, and she would gladly answer the call of the Jaguar King. A path she knew, from what she had read in the journals, was drenched in blood.

What if she turned into a killer? What if she began to hurt people and eat them? The thought made her sick and dizzy. She'd be hated again. Hated and ignored and she'd wish she could just vanish.

The conflict of emotions played itself out on her troubled face, escalating until with a puff of smoke-

she did vanish ( ... )

The puff of smoke blocked Guy's vision, and when he was able to see again, all the remained before him was a small tiger. "Dammit!" he muttered, between clenched teeth, punching his fist against the ground.

She growled at him, and it broke Guy's heart. He'd only just met this little girl, but... to lose her to her inner animal, to see the transformation after she had fought so hard against it, really hurt, and he found himself reaching out to pet her atop the head; the longer she remained in contact with humans, he hoped, the better chance of recovery she would have. And hopefully it would stop her at least from becoming such a blood thirsty monster as some of the other cats had been.

He turned his face to Yuki. "We can't give up on her yet..."
