Susumu was glad that his anxiety hadn't shown in his writing.
He had never refused Okita or Hijikata his presence before. Susumu was a shinobi, a tool of the Shinsengumi. He wasn't expected to live life with the same freedom as a Samurai did. Much like his sister, he was bound to the shadows until death. At least he had been.

Susumu had struggled to keep himself disguised as Osei. It was one thing to play a woman on the familiar streets of Japan, but too many things were different here. He had already screwed up, nearly blown his cover. He had walked the streets as himself, talked and lived with people as himself. He wasn't supposed to have a self. To add to that, he had even chosen his own personal goal over seeing his superior ( ... )

She was just happy to see him. He had mentioned a few things to note, directly or otherwise. The importance of the people he was going to see, and that they were from a place that he had come from before Rivelata. He didn't seem particularly ecstatic about the arrivals, however. His manner and expressions held off some impending uncertainty or tension that Lucretia couldn't quite put her finger on. She might have just been imagining things, anyway. Her questions and curiosity could be reserved for some point after the meeting anyway. Or so she would naturally assume ( ... )

How could one woman be so..kind?
It still confused Susumu, and he wondered how such a woman had came to be in his company. He certainly didn't deserve her, not after all the things he had done. The fact that he was even becoming bothered by the lives he had taken meant that he had already changed. Had it been simply her influence, or being left to his own devices? Susumu knew that it wouldn't be a welcome change when he went back to Japan, blood staining his dagger once more.

"I'll come back." At least to say goodbye and thank you, I owe you that much. A nod to Lucretia, and he disappeared into the shadows of the trees to emerge from the foliage a bit closer to Okita.

Tatsu reached the park with little difficulty, the helpful directions Okita had given him fresh in his mind. It was unlike anything he remembered- having spent most of his recent time in the bustling and busy capital, the green and luscious countryside seemed like a distant memory.

He felt much more at ease than usual- Yamazaki might be here too, which would have normally put him on edge, given their recent interactions. However, Tatsunosuke felt ready to talk to the former ninja, now that he had a bearing on his surroundings and felt a bit more self-sufficient and aware.

He spied Okita a dozen yards away, and sped up his pace to meet wit him. "Okita-san," he called cheerfully, the grass cooling the bare tops of his feet as he jogged through it.

"Aaah, Tatsunosuke-san!" Souji called cheerily. "Glad you could make it."

He looked around the park, his eyes skirting over one area in particular, "I have a feeling Yamazaki-kun will be along any minute now."

He hadn't want to come out of the trees right near Lucretia. Despite the fact she was no threat to Okita or Tatsu, Susumu didn't feel like an introduction ( ... )

Souji watched Susumu and not without suspicion as the other rose, still with his head bowed. "You're here now," he spoke gently with neither cheer nor disappointment. He looked from one to the other, smiling only when he turned to Tatsunosuke, who needed the most reassurance and normality out of the three of them, "we all are."
