He was sitting on the window sill, one leg propped up and Mugen resting against his chest. He took a deep breath and looked from the evening streets of Rivelata to Fou's still form. His expression was stern if a bit forlorn. It was his fault after all, the least he could do was offer some company.
At first he refused to even enter the room. Alma had finally convinced him, saying nonsensical things like 'it's not your fault' and 'everything will be ok, you'll see' which had earned him a deadly glare. Kanda didn't respond well to these things... or anything that required emotions at all.
He felt guilt and that was driving him a bit insane.
You damn kids.
He did a double take. Fou was still lying still on the bed. Then what the hell was that?
She could feel his eyes on her, the confused look on his face.
Kids aren't supposed to grow up overnight.
Because it was stupid to be making sure two little kids actually went to bed on time, only to wake up the next day and suddenly they'd gained almost 10 years to their lives in only a matter of hours. Fou had gotten so used to it, the damn stupid routine they'd stuck her in, that seeing them older was strange, but almost... a little refreshing.
More strange than refreshing to see an older Alma, though.
Fou sighed in her sleep, and the voice spoke again. Cat got your tongue, brat..?
At first he thought he was imagining things, but after listening and seeing how her body slacked more with a sigh, he knew she was conscious. In her own way, of course.
"It wasn't overnight for me." He remained on his spot on the window sill.
Maybe it would have been nice to see a familiar face, if that familiar face hadn't been trying to stab her through with a sword. Fou wondered if maybe she should have thought that all through, if maybe she'd had the time to think about it. Yet, despite the wounds, Fou couldn't think of anything she'd have done differently.
After a few minutes of silence, Fou's lips parted with a small groan and she opened her eyes just enough to be able to see the light from the lamps outside hitting the ceiling in the room through the window.
The idiot. Kanda thought to himself as he saw her open her eyes just barely. He left his spot and walked to her side.
"Don't push yourself." He said in a tone that would cover his being concerned. Perhaps even threatening her to stay put least she'd hurt herself more.
What now? He looked down at her bandaged injuries and then at the door. There was no point in him being there. He could just call Alma and have him babysit her.

"It's been nearly a decade."

His hold on Mugen was tense.
