The weather had to be braved sooner or later. Food didn't last forever, and there was still the matter of those much-needed explosives. She wasn't sure she'd find her exploding pellets anywhere around here, but the slender sticks of firecrackers weren't such a bad replacement. Carrie sat beneath a roof awning out of the rain, bag of groceries forgotten at her feet and a stick twirling between the fingers of one hand.

One had been set off earlier, so spoke a blackened husk, but with disappointing results. She could always make her own, maybe. If she had to. She doubted it'd have much better results though.

Ashe looked up at the pouring sky, blinking as the rain fell near her eyes. It was like Giza during the Rains. Finding alternate paths of travel along the roofs reminded her of using conveniently placed tree trunks to circumvent the deluge...she snapped herself back to reality almost immediately. Pining for days gone by wouldn't help her now, just as it had never helped her.

That's when she noticed Carrie. She masked her surprise, though barely, wondering if her disguise would work on someone she was familiar with. Of course, she was planning on revealing herself to the girl, but it was a point of pride for the Queen.

"Carrie? What business have you in such a place?"

She knew the voice. She knew the voice, that was the first reaction -- but the face behind it? Her head had snapped up immediately at the sound of Ashe's address, but she didn't respond quite as fast.

Obviously she knew the speaker, as the speaker knew her. A quick once-over told her that it was a disguise (or a spud who just liked to dress over the top, that could always be it), and there wasn't a real long list of people who went around needing a disguise.

She didn't let the smile show.

"Just getting some fresh air in. Or at least some swimming practice."

"Not very prudent of you," Ashe reprimanded, albeit lightly. "You should be inside, or making your way to a shelter. On top of the animals, there is Sylar." She narrowed her eyes. "As I'm sure you know."

In Da Clinic eatshootsnleves May 26 2010, 15:11:50 UTC
Roy slept with a gun under his pillow these days. For all the good it'd do him, sure, but somehow he didn't think Gabe would come hunting for him in his hospital bed anyway. If anything it was for the beasts in the streets, a flashback episode if there ever was one - he'd already shot an ornery dragon that stood about knee-high to a horse and spat sparks at the clinic curtains.

He was worried. Journal contact with the voyage hadn't lasted, and he could only choose to believe that was because they were somehow out of magical range - and not because they'd gone under the waves.

It was harder to get to the clinic than Ashe had thought it would be. I should not have dallied as long as I did. Rivelata was a shadow of its former self. Ashe was, at least, glad that she'd gotten Larsa and Penelo out of this mess, though what mess they were in she had no idea.

She knocked on Roy's door before letting herself in. "Roy."

He was propped up on pillows when she came in, bandages stretched across the burns on his chest. "Howdy, stranger." he greeted, but the flickered smile didn't reach his eyes.

His journal was held shut in one hand, thumb idly stroking the binding.

Ashe walked further into the room, feeling more than a little awkward without her heels. There were a lot of thoughts running through her head at that moment. Most of them were angry. Seeing him lying there, though, guessing what he had done and why he had done it, it was hard for her to stay mad. Well, that mad.

"You did not leave with the boats."

Rooftops really did seems one of the only safe ways to travel with all the flooding, and Boba couldn't afford to lose the supplies he was carrying. He wished that the jetpack had been an option to use, but he knew all to well that the weight would have been too much. So instead he had a nice assortment of weapons, very basic electronics from the junkyard, and some nice pieces of lumber he had found all strapped to various parts of his body.

Even though he was rushing to make sure nothing got ruined, he still noticed when his scanners caught the presence of someone else nearby. Boba quickly scanned the area, and his helmet finally honed in on the person hurrying nearby.

Though something seemed familiar about the figure, he still switched the safety off of his gun. He was less mobile with all the baggage. Couldn't afford to take any chances.

The click of Boba's gun was lost to the din of the rain on the rooftops, but it was the feeling of being watched that tipped the Queen off to Boba's presence.

A hand went to the hilt of her sword before she recognized the figure. She raised her hands, walking toward him slowly. "Worry not, Boba, it is I, the Lady Ashelia."

As soon as she spoke, he put the safety back on. Now he knew why she had seemed so familiar, but... she wasn't dressed in the clothes she usually wore. On top of that, wasn't she supposed to have left on the boats?

"I thought you had left," he replied. The closer she got, and the more details he could see, the less he was surprised at not being able to recognize her. She didn't even look like a woman in the outfit she had on.

"It seems you want everyone else to think that as well." Too many questions came to his mind about just what she was up to, but if she truly wanted to stay hidden then the less she revealed the better. He wouldn't tell anyone of course, but there was never a guarantee of who might be listening. His scanners couldn't penetrate magic unfortunately, and that made him even more cautious than usual on occasions like this.

"There are certain parties I would rather not know of my presence here," she acceded, nodding slightly. "You are not one of them."

She looks around for a moment, one hand on the pommel of her sword just in case. "What brings you here, Boba?"

The Green Hornet rappeled his way down a tenement's rain-slicked walls. Clinging to him piggyback was a shivering boy of five whose grip around his neck betrayed absolute trust. Who else was there when when his mother never came back from trying to find him food ( ... )

NONSENSE AND POPPYCOCK MY GOOD MAN dynast_queen May 28 2010, 02:11:31 UTC
Well, wasn't that a welcome sight. That's what you should be doing, Ashe thought. Instead of wandering around and dispatching monsters where you find them, looking for your 'contacts.' The man was a shady character to be sure, but he was the most right-minded of all of them.

Ashe walked into the open, looking down at the Green Hornet from a rooftop. She wondered, briefly, if he would recognize her.

"Over there." The Green Hornet pointed two o' clock high, drawing the Swarm's attention to an abandoned hovel. There was something odd about the man on the roof, about the way he was observing their little convoy. Unlike tonight's would-be avacuees, there was calm self-assured purpose in his stance, though the nature of said purpose was anybody's guess.

In any case, this warranted a closer look.

He ordered the other four boats to sail on, then he waved once at the watching figure; he'd be having company soon. He decided not to take one of his commandos along; if this was some kind of setup, the good folks riding with them would need all the protection they could get.

It wasn't long before the Hornet clambered onto the roof and sized up the man. He didn't know him (outside of a very subconscious feeling of dejavu) but he could see he was armed. Definitely a first for tonight, and that could mean all sorts of things.

His voice came slightly raised against the driving rain. "Need a ride, mister? The Haven's just a few blocks down."

"Not as such, no," Ashe said, not bothering to mask her voice. She smiled. "It has been too long, Hornet."

It had. Ashe had been so busy being caught up in her own selfish melodrama she hadn't been paying as much attention to goings on as she should have. Helping Alma had been the start of her trying to get back on track; she saw a real opportunity to do good with the Green Hornet, grassroots style.

"Noble work," she continued, looking down at the boats. "How goes it?"

Adam disliked the rain, simply because it usually made a mess of his plans. It was impossible to move about with his spell in the rain, and it often came at the most inopportune times. Always a wrench into his plans. At the same time, it brought some unexpected things to the overall scheme, and a slew of challenges. The rain was also useful in masking things.

He sat under the small overhang in front of his shop, appearing to enjoy the rain casually. Watching the people go by was always excellent means to gain information.

Ashe was hurrying along the street, thankful that this part of town hadn't been flooded. Yet. As much as she hated to admit it, she was getting fatigued. Jumping across rooftops in flats when you're used to heels is much more taxing than one might think.

That's when, from the corner or her eye, she saw Adam. She hesitated for a moment before making a beeline for him. You cannot help those who do not know you can help.

"Adam, I...inside. Please," is all she said, keeping her voice deceptively low.

He looked up in confusion, a frown coming to his face. "Excuse me?" He called, still keeping with that gentlemanly side of him. After a moment, he nodded, calmer. "This way," He moved to hold open the door for her. Adam had a feeling who it was- and it was an interesting development, certainly. He could use that to his advantage.

He feigned cluelessness as to who his visitor was, keeping a touch of confusion and uncertainly in his features. "I'm not quite sure what this is about."

"There's not much time," the Queen said quickly, dropping her act. She hoped he caught on soon enough, as night was falling, and she wanted to check up on Alma and Yuu before retiring for the night.

"You must evacuate to a shelter. The flooding is showing no signs of slowing, and the animals become more aggressive and dangerous by the day. Please, Adam." The last thing she wanted was for him to get caught up in her plan to frame Sylar, especially if he'd put in an appearance.
