Al smiled, and clapped his hands together. As the energy crackled, he put his hands to the water, creating a long, swaying tendril that coiled around Euphemia and tightened slowly, dampening her dress.

With that done, Al let the rest of the water go splashing to the dock and clapped his hands again, reaching out to place his hands on Euphie's shoulders. In a cloud of iron- and salt-scented steam, Euphie's dress was suddenly clean...though, no better off in terms of anything else, really.

He stepped back, smiling, and finally answered her question.

"Not difficult, I don't think. We can pick some up at Eagle's Splendor, along with a few other things for you to wear."

And there was said rescuing. She watched him, in awe at just what it was he was doing -- she'd never seen anyone manipulate water so... freely. Something like that would've been considered impossible where she was from, actually. And for it to be cleaned so easily... It really was something to be amazed about.

Euphemia hesitated for a moment, then smiled. "That's good. It makes it easier for us."

Stepping forward a bit, she leaned over to pick up the shoes she had eariler abandoned, opting not to put them on since they were still bloody. Turning back to face him, she had a completely curious look on her face. "I hadn't known it would be so simple for you to do. Just how does that sort of magic work?" Because really, after what Matsuri told mentioned about special powers, that sort of thing seemed a lot of like magic to her.

He had Psiren to thank for that little trick - he'd remembered that she was able to manipulate water, and with a little experimentation, he'd managed to pick the trick up himself. He would never be nearly as good as she was, of course - water was her specialty - but he had enough to do simple things like moving it from one place to another.

Al shook his head, smiling. "It's not magic," he said. "It's alchemy - it's a science that uses the earth's latent energy to change things. In this case, to change water to steam."

"It's common in the world my brother and I come from - more common than any other kind of science or magic, in fact."

"Alchemy?" Euphemia had heard of such a thing before when she had been reading up on history before -- history that wasn't Britannia's own, at least, and the term seemed a little familiar. If she remembered right, it was something that was practiced a few centuries before the Celtic King Eowyn became first member of the Britannian royal line. Even then, that sort of information was hard to find as it was, so even remembering that wasn't easy. There'd never been anyone to expand on that sort of thing as far as anyone knew of, so it was probably either dropped or just practiced in private ( ... )

Al laughed and held his hands out for the shoes. "No, not at all," he answered. "In fact, it hardly takes any energy at all - just a little concentration."

Centuries of information, she'd said. Al wondered if that might have been useful, back when he and his brother were searching for the Stone. Possibly. Probably. But, then again, they'd had a lot of information at their fingertips, and it just hadn't seemed to be enough. Maybe that wouldn't have changed. He wondered where Miss Euphie was from, that there was so much information readily available.

"If you're interested," he offered, "I can teach you a little bit about it. I'm not a very good teacher, I'm afraid, but I can do my best. My brother can probably help, too - he's always been a better alchemist than me."
