There were so many thoughts going through his head that Sylar thought it might explode. He didn't know why he was going to Adam. He had barely trusted anyone before, and all of the few he had trusted had let him down. How was he sure Adam would be any different?

He walked along the beach and saw his friend a little ways off. Part of him wanted to just turn and go back, but another knew that if he did then he might never have another chance to get help. Sylar took a deep breath and walked the rest of the way.

"Adam, thanks for coming." Sylar didn't even try to force a smile, this was too serious to him. "I guess I should start off by telling you I haven't been completely forward with you about my ability." He gave a short laugh completely devoid of any humor. "Well more precisely my abilities"

Sylar held out his hand and a ball of blue lightning suddenly formed in his palm.

Adam jumped back quickly, completely caught by surprise. Then, he relaxed and approached the ball of lightening. He could hear it crackling and there was a subtle smell of burnt ozone in the air.

"...incredible," Adam murmured. "This is what you can do? How does this work, if the ability you told me was figuring out how things work?"

He saw Adam jump and was reminded of all the people back in his world that had seen his powers. Only few had lived past it...

"The ability I told you about let's me see how things work." The ball of lightning disappeared. "Aut it also let's me take the abilities of others..."

Sylar kept his hand outstretched. He focused on the ground and a small bit of sand ascended into his palm. "I've acquired quite a few." He focused on the small pile in his hand and the grains of sand suddenly turned into gold. He turned his hand and watched as the gold grains fell back to the ground. "And lost quite a few as well."

Adam was just fascinated. He watched as the sand rose and fell as gold. "That's amazing," he said. He was tempted to poke the area where the sand had risen.

"How did you get them though? You said you can see how it works, does simply watching another perform their ability let you have it as well?"

lol. See what I mean? crazy4pwr May 14 2009, 01:34:11 UTC
So he had to find his own path then. Fine, he was used to doing things himself anyway. He could fix this. He remembered telling Elle how she had to forgive herself in order to get over her father. Maybe he had to do the same...

Sylar knew he couldn't undo all the damage he had done, and there was no way he could try to change that. So he'd have to find another way to make up for it. He hadn't hurt anyone here, and maybe he could redeem himself by continuing to do just that. He could build a new life here. Start from scratch. People here genuinely cared about him.

He looked at Adam again. "Thanks. I guess I will have to try to move on..." He smiled slightly once again. "And who knows? Maybe I can use my abilities for good. There's bound to be opportunities for that on this island."

Adam got an idea.

"How about you come patrol with me? I go out at night in uniform to patrol the area, make sure everyone is okay," Adam offered. "Not that it seems to do any of us good. Whoever is causing the murders slips right past us."

Patrol? Sylar thought it over. That could work. It would keep him busy, and he'd have the opportunity to do some good if the moment presented itself. It seemed trusting Adam had really paid off. Sylar had started to forgive himself, he had found a way to redeem his past, and he hadn't killed anyone. That was a big deal for him.

"You know what?" Sylar responded. "I think I'll take you up on that offer."

"When do I start?"

"When it's night," Adam chuckled. "And preferably not pouring but I can't control that. Meet me at my house tonight."
