She'd never had a Valentine before. Was this the way they all made you feel? Nervous and jittery, and butterflies all aflutter! She hadn't felt like this since meeting Cornelius. "This is so exciting and strange." She primped herself in front of her too-big mirror, spinning and twirling in her newly finished dress as she anxiously awaited--

The knock at the door!

She nearly fell over herself in her hurry to get over to the opened window a few feet away from the door. "I'm here, I'm here!" she called out, waving her hand as she stepped onto the windowsill. The moment she caught sight of him, she blushed wildly, and raised a hand to hide her embarrassed smile.

At the call he immediately looked over, and a smile curved his mouth when he spotted his adorable little Valentine, looking all sorts of pretty in her dress. For a moment his smile wavered as he nervously ran a hand through his hair, and tugged at a sleeve before leaning over and holding his palm out for her to take.

"That's a really nice dress."

If she had been able to get any redder, she would have the moment he complimented her. Instead, she giggled shyly into her hands, and carefully balanced herself as she stepped onto his open palm. "Do you really think so? Clothes in my size.... They're just so hard to find! But you," she continued, smiling ear to ear as she fussed with the fabric of her skirt. "You look very handsome. Like a prince."

She sat, and after doing so, she busied herself with smoothing over her skirt, unable to settle the fast beating of her heart. Oh, she was just so nervous! And excited! "I've never had a Valentine before!" she exclaimed. "I'm afraid I don't know what they do...."

"Like a prince?" he echoed, looking down at himself, unable to keep from smirking, "I sure feel like one." He chuckled, bringing his palm close, "You're all set, right? I've got a surprise waiting for you at home, so... " He wasn't entirely sure what to do himself; of course he read up on it and heard people talking about Valentine's Day, but actually experiencing it for yourself was completely different. "I've never had a Valentine before either, you're my first one." He smiled, rearing back to step down from the stairs and onto the street. He was starting to feel a little nervous, he shot down a few glances down at Thumbelina - she was so petite and fragile and cute and he just felt like the smaller she was, the bigger any mistakes he made would seem. A sigh escaped him. Honestly, he was wishing she was bigger so he could hold her hand and walk her home. That would make him been infinitely better right now.

"Mmhmm!" It was exciting, being someone's first Valentine, and them being yours, too. She wasn't sure of the customs or what you were supposed to do, but there was comfort in knowing he was on the same lily pad as she was.... Maybe something bigger, though, like a boat? Yes, at least they were on the same boat!

"I wish I had a surprise for you," she sighed, watching him with wide blue eyes. "Everything was just too big for me to carry." Oh, she hated being so small! Especially because everyone else around here was regular sized! Everything was so much more difficult and complicated-- and the bugs here didn't even talk! "Do you think there's a way for me to get big? Here, there must be.... So many people do amazing things, don't they?"
