WHO: Jade Curtiss, The Doctor, Cloud WHAT: Examining Jade's expensive bookend. WHERE: Keterburg Lofs. WHEN: Day 235 NOTE: Peony is welcome to crash, since he lives there too. Anyone else knock at the door first.
Jade went to the kitchen, and returned with the kettle in one hand, and the stone, on a plate, in the other.
"I'll be right back with the cups. You can have a look at my latest acquisition while I do so. Anyone enjoys milk with their tea? Perhaps sugar? Natalia baked some cookies earlier, but I must warn you that they are a little singed around the edges."
He put both of his burdens down on the coffee table, and smiled at Cloud and The Doctor. He seemed to be in unusually high spirits.
"Milk and sugar would be lovely, thanks!" He said, immediately taking Jade up on his offer and seeking out the jade, taking it into his hands gingerly and peering down at it through his many lensed spectacles.
"Wouldn't think it was anything but a normal piece of jade, would you?" He murmured, half to himself and half to Cloud if he was listening, "But there's just something off about it - it's just so... so very off! You don't feel right looking at it, really, and I don't quite want to hold it for very long."
He turned it about in his hands once before setting it down again and settling himself into a seat on the floor so he could bend over it, just watching it, as if waiting for it to do something.
"Plain is fine for me." Cloud replied to Jade quietly, his blue eyes watching the crystal as the Doctor took it into his hands.
The warrior was indeed listening to the Doctor as he spoke -- and he didn't have to be touching the stone to see what the man meant about something being off about it.
Shortly after the man sat on the floor to watch it, Cloud actually moved closer and knelt on the floor as well, on the opposite side of the coffee table as the Doctor. Curious eyes never abandoning their focus on the crystal, the blond reached out to touch it. His fingers trailed across it and lingered there a moment before his lips traced into a small frown. He withdrew his hand then.
"I don't like it." His voice was quiet as he spoke. "It feels..." He didn't know how to describe it. There were ideas that came to mind -- but they couldn't be right. "...too familiar."
Jade's voice wafted in from the kitchen, amongst the noise of china and cutlery being rattled around.
"I understand how you feel, Doctor, I have been avoiding it ever since I got it, for I can not shake the feeling that it is more than is seems. Who knows what it can really do? That is the danger of non-government sanctioned magical artifacts."
He returned a few minutes later with a tray, balancing a pot of cream, some sugar cubes in a saucer, and fresh cookies -lumpy, a little singed, but he had tasted them and they were surprisingly good for something Natalia made-.
"What makes me particularly peevish, though, is that it does not seem to be anything special. Perhaps we should try it out to see if it works..."
"Peevish, yes - most definitely," he said, nodding in Jade's direction before turning his attention to Cloud. "But familiar, well, that's something else."
He straightened, folding his arms about his chest as he looked down at the blonde, his thoughtful frown deepening.
"What exactly do you know about it, then? Familiar is what you said it was - familiar, which means you've got to feel some sort of connection to it, which means that you've got to know something similar to it, or know of it, at least. Have you seen anything of the like before? I won't get into a whole dissertation on resonance and whatnot right here, but I'm sure if you've been around and perceptive of the journal entries you'll know all about that already." The Doctor adjusted his glasses, slipping his sonic screwdriver out of his pocket and tapping it against his palm.
"Although Mister Jade is right - it's probably easier to tell seeing it in action. Without any sort of demonstration than all we've got is a gem that feels awfully familiar, and that isn't much to

"Not too exciting on its own, is it?"
