It was unfortunate when Yuki woke in the middle of the night, and even more unfortunate to wake up due to screaming from the streets outside. Sighing, he pushed his way out of bed and moved over to his opened window to peer down to the ground below.

Well.

There was a bird. In the street. Spouting poetry.

This must have been one of the reported cases of people turning into animals. Oddly enough, this person-turned-animal seemed to retain some semblance of humanity, and hadn't been completely consumed by the disease. It was incredibly curious.

After grabbing a shirt and checking up on the members of the household, Yuki made his way to the front door on the first floor and closed it quietly behind him as he stepped outside.

The bird didn't seem at all that threatening or violent, but Yuki's reflexes would kick in if the time came to make a quick escape.

"A frog, you say? You're going to wake the whole island up," he said to the bird, incredibly calm given the situation. But it wasn't as though he hadn't seen people-turned-animals

Zexion circled the boy, bobbing his head up and down to get a better look, wings akimbo. "Yes, a frog. Not a rat. Rats are furry and for cats not birds, I should think. Frogs or fishes or maybe just some watercress grass perhaps perhaps or a flight or perhaps a book of Robert Frost. No, wait, I like Robert Frost. Perhaps T.S. Eliot instead. Pretentious bastard."

He fluttered his wings a bit, and then began to sing.
"I'm not a lumberjack
Which isn't OK!
I run all night
and I sleep all dayyy~"

"Rats are not for cats! They can do so much better than that. Cats are despicable creatures." He watched the bird with a cautious eye, but remained calm and shifted only to ensure he didn't come into contact with it.

"You really aren't making any sense at all, and I think you have your sleeping schedule messed up. You ought to go back home. The more people you wake up, the more likely you are to get into a heap of trouble."

Play it nice and cool, at least until this thing started nipping at him. So far, again, no reason for alarm. Why was he out here, anyway? He didn't usually run off into situations like this.

"Not making sense, no. My sleep schedule has been rather unfortunately disrupted by my sudden transformation into a bird," he said, sounding, for the moment, mostly lucid.

Which really didn't last long.

He began nibbling at Yuki's clothes, more as if he was looking for something. "Do YOU have a froggy?"

Great. Zexion was now a were-crane. Freaking delightful. He certainly wasn't her friend, but he was a member of the Council, and it would be a major blow to the Resistance if the psycho were-huntress found him like this. She'd left the note for Larxene, who was sure to find it, and tried to go back to her normal routine. Which, lucky for her, meant nighttime flights and her usual insomnia, both enforced and habitual.

Max spotted the crane with her raptor vision, even in the crescent-moon light. She glared and swooped, intending to grab him and hold him until Larxene could take the renegade bird back to her house to deal with him.

Zexion was far, far less graceful than Max, and thus found himself suddenly snatched. Lucky for him, nothing broke, but he was quite displeased.

"Unhand me, lady Maxine, or I shall be forced to turn you into a SHRUBBERY," he shouted, trying to peck and scratch at her.

Max was used to holding an eighty poud dog and a Scottie who refused to shut up about "refined" culture and spoke French. Annoying were-crane Zexion calling her a name she hated?

It took all her willpower not to drop the bird and go away.

"With your magical voodoo, I'm so afraid, Zexion." She muttered, landing on a rooftop to pin his feathers. "I've got mutant strength you can't dream of in that form, and there's no way you're running around this city where you could possibly infect people and endanger your own life." She look him directly in the eyes. "If I become a crane, God forbid, you owe me."

The pecks were nothing more than an annoyance right now. The fear of lycanthropy had been washed away when her body suddenly went into battle mode. A little bit of blood seeped out from where he broke the skin, but injury was the least of Max's worries.

"And I know exactly how to disable wings." Her brown eyes seemed to be on fire. Why hadn't she decided to bring rope just this once?

He continued to struggle vainly. The small, logical part of his brain said that he should let her take him home as it really WASN'T safe out there for him, but even that part resented being pinned. He squirmed.

"I said let me go," he hissed, anger and resentment swelling in his breast.

As he said that, pain shot through every bone in his body. He squawked, convulsing, as suddenly his bones ceased to be hollow.

Namine was not a heavy sleeper. So it was little surprise that when she heard the loud cries of the were-crane that was Zexion, she woke with a start. A little disoriented she could hear someone screaming about gravity from outside the house. It took a moment for her to recognize the voice, and a moment longer to realize that the sound should not becoming from outside of the house.

Quickly, she got up from the couch she had been staying on for the past few days and made it to the window just in time to see him fly off. Oh no. Oh no! That woman would be patrolling the streets and she might...

"LARXENE!" Namine called in what was close to a panic as she grabbed one sandle and clipping it on her foot. "Zexion is loose!" She pulled on the other sandle and forced it to buckle as well.

Hoping that she would be followed, Namine ran out of the house and followed the direction the bird had gone in hopes of finding him at least.

... and there was now a very human man in her arms. With a disgusted sound, and barely hiding a blush that covered her entire face, Max dropped him onto the roof.

"Of course now is the time you decide you've spouted enough bad poetry." Max complained as she looked away. Looking away allowed the bird-girl to see the blond head of hair running below. She was yelling Zexion's name. Perfect time for her to escape.

"Your rescue party is here." She said, voice still slightly strangled. She felt the need to burn her eyes out and wipe her memories, really. That was one thing she could've lived very peacefully without ever having seen.

Lucky for Zexion, Max didn't have her backpack. Which meant she had no spare clothes.

Zexion lay very still for a few moments, dazed, cold, and now thoroughly embarrassed in every way possible. Hearing Namine's voice, he rolled over, sticking his head over the edge of the roof.

"Miss Namine?" he called. "I... am up here. I am no longer a bird. And I ah, have no clothes."

Namine pulled her blanket closer around her shoulders having stopped running as she lost her lead. Where could he have gone ( ... )

Zexion quickly took the blanket and tied it around himself, fastening it like a toga. He was blushing furiously now. "I apologize. To both of you. Max, thank you for, er, rescuing me. I am rather upset that you dropped me but given the circumstances. And Namine..."

There was genuine kindness in his voice. "Thank you for coming after me at all, and keeping me out of trouble."

Running a hand through his hair, he sighed. "I think we should all get home before more damage is caused, yes?"

Max watched the ascent of the girl. Rather weak, wasn't she? Another person to watch out for. It was a pet peeve of hers that bullies existed at all. Personal habit of hers to get into fights to even the playing field.

Looking back, Zexion was blushing. That was interesting. Max had recovered her usual mask, hiding most everything beneath it again.

She raised an eyebrow and walked to the edge, unfurling her wings again. Naminé, had Zexion called her?, would find out that special trait soon enough. Max wasn't about to admit she was utterly uncomfortable and out of her element when it came to holding people that close.

She settled her jaw and turned around. "So I get a free pass this time. I'm so honored." If there was a next time he decided to be a bird, Max was bringing rope and tying the stupid were-bird down. If there was a next time. If what Batman and the hunter-person had said, she was really hoping there wasn't a poety-spewing bird form in her future. He so owed her for that.

Namine was sure she was still blushing though the reason changed from embarrassment for both herself and Zexion to a strange form of pride. She could not remember ever having gotten praise from any of the original members of the organization, or anyone really at all beside Sora, Riku, and Kairi, and it felt good. She smiled shyly and clasped her hands behind her back, eyes still trained on the roof.

"That sounds like a good idea," She agreed, finally looking up, surprised to see the other nobody blushing too.

She watched the other girl when she spoke, surprised to see wings on the girl's back. She barely managed to contain her surprise. She was very pretty, and with her wings she would be a good subject for a drawing maybe...Namine pulled herself back to the situation and looked back to Zexion.

"How are we going to get down?" she asked, hoping it was not the way she had come up.
