It had taken him a while to get away from the ship, way too many people wanted him for way too dreary tasks. Morne didn’t really mind a bit of responsibility - at least not since he gained more than he gave - but sometimes it seemed too easy for other people to blame their low ranks for not being able to handle even the smallest matter on their own. The fact that many of his crew mates saw him as little more than a whimsical simpleton who had been the only one stupid enough to take the job mostly helped. It made them leave him alone and it made it easier for him to manipulate them. However, right now he had different business to take care of ( ... )

“Not a problem,” Katou replied, tilting his head to a cocky grin as the black-haired boy stepped in. He was mildly surprised at how small he was. Pictures could be deceiving sometimes. He picked up the syringe a second time and held it baited in his fingers. “I got two of ‘em. They look damn weird to me but the connections I got ‘em from are pretty reliable. For this place.”

He placed the syringe back onto the table, a little further away from him and then leaned back, tilting his chair. “Of course, we also got the old stuff. You know, opium, mescaline; the works. I’ll give ya a discount if you want.” For once in all the time since his death, he was feeling in his element - at least in the sales man’s aspect. This was what he was used to, what he was good at. It had taken about a year of practice but by the time he had turned seventeen he had been earning enough money selling drugs to afford them himself. Experience was a useful thing.

Some things really lasted you for a life time. And, in this case, even beyond that.

”Such a well-stocked place, indeed,” Morne raised an eyebrow as he walked up to the blond youngster - such ambitions in such a young age. “You could get far, dear. Way too far to spend all your life in such a small town.”

His drive would suit better in Jahi Town, just like his attitude. Fate sure was an interesting force sometimes. The syringe on the table seemed to be the common type which made him wonder what kind this boy was used to but asking would give away the fact that he didn’t see anything strange with it which would also raise the price.

“I think I’ll start with the morphine though. Drugs are too popular aboard for me to keep a stock.” He didn’t really mind it when people stole from him - his cigarettes were stolen and so were the coins that he had stuffed down in his pocket before he left. But placing out baits was just dense. He jumped up at the table, opposite Katou, crossed his legs and leaned back on his arms, smiling confidently.
“However, we haven’t talked about payment yet, have we love?”

“Ain’t like I’m here ’cause I wanna be,” the blond replied, slightly taken aback by the blunt jump onto the table but impressed nonetheless. He really was a daring little shrimp. “Got stranded over here and ‘m just doing my time, enjoying it while I can.” It wasn’t like he had made a lot of attempts to leave Rivelata. Quite the contrary, he was starting to feel quite at home here, with all the new acquaintances he had made, his job, Kira. Somehow it was a rather futile waste of time to try and find a way back home, especially since it was quite clear that escaping without help from the outside was almost impossible. That didn’t mean he wasn’t curious what was beyond this place, and it most certainly didn’t mean that he’d stick around here forever ( ... )

The people in Rivelata were a strange bunch. And after having read through the messages that had turned up in his logbook after he arrived here, the pirate knew that most of them, in fact, came from some other place. While his shipmates had busied themselves trying to take over an inn he had read through the book from cover to cover and even though he didn’t really understand how all this worked he at least thought that he had gotten some kind of understanding of the situation. It was intriguing, exciting even, and Morne had a feeling that in the end, he might have just as much to learn from these individuals as they from him. Also, it was an uncommonly easy and effortless way to pay for good drugs ( ... )
