WHO: Kurama (fox_shuuichi) and Hitachiin Kaoru (poetryinfashion) WHAT: Long-awaited training. WHERE: Paradise Blossoms. Or, rather, the clear lot behind the shop. WHEN: Day 90, dusk.
Flipping through his journal on his way over, Kaoru mulled over just how long it had been. He was such a stickler for details... he'd memorized the captive list, he could remember little things he told people, enough to make poetry out of it, and now here he was counting the days since this promise had been made

Kurama gave a shallow bow, his battle instincts already in place as his eyes swept over Kaoru's form automatically, even as he heard himself returning the greeting.
"Konbanwa, Kaoru-kun. Hisashiburi. The change was immediately visible to anyone who knew the boy. More than just the physical changes - his hair, a firmer line of muscle beneath his clothing (which, Kurama was amused to note, was based on his own), a harder and determined glint in his eyes. Kurama found himself smiling, oddly proud. This was not the same boy he had met so long ago. This was a young man, well on his way to becoming a powerful warrior
( ... )
Kaoru followed Kurama silently. His smile fading when he caught the look in Kurama's eyes, Kaoru set his face to be more determined, focused on what was about to be happening. For the duration of this training, they were not friends. They were sparring partners - opponents - but the underlying intention was still there, Kaoru knew.
It occurred to Kaoru as he came to stop a few feet away from Kurama that Kurama had promised this because Riku and Luke and others like them fought with blades, but Kurama (and Yusuke) used their bodies more than anything else, and Kurama had wanted for Kaoru a greater awareness of his own body through unarmed martial arts.
Okay then.Kaoru unhooked the belt his rapier hung from and tossed the weapon aside, nearer to a wall than where he expected them to be sparring. Then, he mimicked Kurama's posture, waiting for instructions or more movement of some kind. He kept his spine straight, but relaxed his shoulders and elbows. He held his chin up, but not so high as to appear proud, and kept his eyes fixed on

Kurama saw the change fall over Kaoru's face, saw the realization flash through his eyes. He watched the boy discard of his weapon - though he did not approve of the fashion in which it was done, his eyes narrowing slightly - and gave a slow, shallow nod of approval
( ... )
Kaoru caught the look in Kurama's eyes though had no idea why it was there. It was just a rapier, after all; if it had broken, Kaoru decided, he could have just as easily picked up another one tomorrow.
And no, he hadn't stretched, but that would be another mistake Kaoru only made once with Kurama.
"Come." That made Kaoru's brow furrow in thought. Sure he'd been taught the basics of fencing and everything, but to charge headlong at Kurama without a weapon?
Uhhhhh......
But he shook his head, trying to clear the two-second hesitation, and set his face stern again. He took a few steps backwards, digging his heels into the ground when he stopped, and then took off at Kurama in a sprint.
Arms crossed just below his eyes so he could still see, Kaoru tried to prepare for running into the wall when Kurama dodged - or rather, that's what Kaoru expected to happen.
